Right so the crew chief from Richard Petty's 7 Championships...he's a bum. The founder of Wood Brother Racing...yea another nobody there. Cale Yarborough, 3 time champion, 83 career wins (6th all time), 4 time Daytona 500 Champ...run him out of town on a rail.
All D.W. did was win 3 championships, have 84 career wins (5th All-Time), won the '89 Daytona 500, 6 times winner of the Coca-Cola 600, set modern series records of consecutive Top 5 finishes (21 in 1981, 22 in 1983), won 7 consecutive races at Bristol (an all time record for any driver), is the 2nd on the Pole Position List with 59, including 35 at Short Tracks, and 8 on road courses (the two latter being records).
If you hate his boogity, boogity shtick that's fine, I do too, but to claim someone with his laundry list of accomplishments and records is somehow less deserving of the HoF than Alan Kulwicki or Davey Allison is asinine. I was a big fan of A.K., but other than winning the '92 Championship, he only won 5 races. Davey only won 19, and finished no better than 3rd in the Championship standings. Both men sadly passed in their primes, and we'll never know how good they could have been, but nominating someone based on the fact they died too soon isn't exactly a legitimate reason to include them.

The real issue is all the guys, most passed on that are fast fading from memory. The down in the dirt guys that toughed it out on very little money and built Nascar into what it became! Very few of the younger fans even recognize the names of the "Pioneers" of racing! because of that Nascar in it's usual lack of wisdom isn't looking at the history but rather the dollar signs (which has not materialized) so they are going for the most recognizable names.
Those Pioneers who are gone and those who are still with us should have been inducted in blanket, or legacy induction in mass numbers the first year or two. then start with the others.
At the rate they are going many more will be long forgotten before getting in.
That people is just plain wrong!

That's just funny, they should break it up like a hocky game and bring out the zamboni. Safe for everyone.
I'm actually suprized they didnt have suite on already. How about speed limits?

How come some open wheel racers can go to NASCAR and do well, but you never see it the other way around. Just sayin...
They go where the money is - period. NASCAR has it - Indycar doesn't. I'm trying to figure out why Montoya left F1 - the potential for monitary gain is greater. Maybe in NASCAR - Montoya felt he had a better chance of winning races - Shumacher was destroying records while Montoya was in that series - many racers were just racing for second.

Montoya and the Williams management didn't see eye to eye and decided to let him go.

And considering how Williams tends to not pay as much as some of the other top tier teams, that likely says a lot. Other drivers have won at Williams and moved on after contract negotiations ended up going nowhere (and many ended up retiring after a few years anyway as the never had the same success as they had at Williams).
That Danica pic is PRICELESS!!!
As for DW in the Hall of Fame, he deserves to be there. Sure, he lets his mouth run on overdrive and that is annoying (which is why I am glad Fox's coverage is only for HALF of the year), but there is no denying the man could drive a car. Besides, who else OTHER than DW could get away with doing the Ickie shuffle in victory lane after winning the Daytona 500 (and he broke his leg six months later, so I don't think he was going to do an encore)?
Personally, I like Michael Waltrip's commentary better. DW can get annoying, Mikey just stays progressively weird and ALWAYS manages to crack me up. Too bad he never had the success as his brother had as Mikey could drive as well. But he never quite had the lucky breaks DW had at the right times. Of course, considering he survived that horrendous crash at Bristol in 1989 during the Busch race when his car crumpled, everything else at that point was likely a bonus in his life anyway (anyone remember that NAPA commercial with the guy who wanted Mikey to autograph his "customized" model cars?).
