Here's a color comparison on the 6 Bbl. Holley's. The base plates are silver-ish...the carbs a combination shade of grey/aluminum. On mine the center carb metering plate is aftermarket black plastic, otherwise that would be the same as the fuel bowls/body.

The Edlebrock replacement Carter AFB's are a brighter silver finish, almost polished in appearance. A Carter Thermoquad has a black plastic body. Rochesters are a similar finish as the Jet Exhaust mentioned earlier. Google carburetor images would help too.

Alclad has a couple of colors that my work for the carbs as well. I think their pale gold (AL-108), Pale burnt metal (ALC-104) and Gold titanium (ALC-118) would look pretty good for a carb.

I do like Cato's idea of adding a thin black wash to it

I've never had that kind of great paints such as Testors' paints, so I painted my carburetors by mixing Revell's #91 Silver and Revell Gold. The result was pretty good, I know you guys could have done it better, but that's how I did and I was happy about it.

I like to mix Testors steel with a little gold. I just eye-ball the mix until I think it looks right.
