This is the first layout I actually plan to finish . The right side measures 91" x 16" , the back side measures 91" x 24" , the left side measures 59" x 16" , and finally there will be a lift out piece connecting the left and right sides that will be around 59" x 10 ".

This layout will be entirley fictional and set in either southern or central washington in the late 60's to late 70's to give me a wide selection of locomotives and rolling stock to work with.

I am currently working on a track plan that will hopefully be finished by late July / early August

Funny guy, funny like a clown he is, haha.

Let's just say what started on a 4x8 sheet of plywood became one entire end of an unfinished basement. My dad, my uncle, me and my first son, all worked on that layout.

I started with a 4x6 sheet of plywood about 7 years ago ............ then this wierd shape was formed 2 years ago

I am going to lay down ballast under the track , I am still in the track plan designing phase

Have you done anything yet? After laying out our track, we marked it, removed it, and used hot glue to glue down a cork roadbed. We nailed down the tracks and then did the ballast. The ballast was actually a combination of several sizes and colors.

Well , the area I am using still isnt cleaned up. Once it is cleaned up I will start drawing trackplans on the plywood. After I am satisfied with the plan I will laydown a foam board base then laydown the track

Really cool. I love HO, and envy you having enough room to do that. Looks like the start of a very nice layout. I've been collecting a few oddball pieces of rollimg stock for years, but have no idea if I'll ever lay any track. Sometimes I'll just run a loco back and forth on a lone piece of flex. Too many interests....too little time.

Well , I dont have much room since there is an attic door or the left wall , which makes the layout have a wonky design , but I am happy with it right now.

What sorts of rolling stock / locos do you have? any pictures?

Doing some more yard work. As you can see , my room is an absolute mess , once I get it cleaned I will be able to finish my track plan

Looks like a fun project starting.
I'm also interested in HO RXR. Modern freight reefers and autoracks mostly.
I don't plan to build an operable layout anytime soon though

Looks like it will be fun! I would love to build a layout, but I don't really have the room and the wife said its either models or the railroad... I did have one when I was a kid, I loved that thing!
