I'm consideriung this purchase. Is it worth almost $50 for something i'm going to build? How is the detail? Is there a more recent (read as cheaper) version?

Testors repackaged and sold it as the "Supervan" by Barris.

Okay, that link shows it to be a decently detailed kit. I'm assuming of course (I know, I know :P ) that the later versions should be a little cheaper?

You said "Love Machine" and the first thing that poped into my head was the movie "Convoy".

I have the Testor's re-issue called "SuperVan".
I do not remember AMT ever offering that kit.

The chassis is almost directly from the A100/little Red Wagon Pickup kit.
Re-enforce the Snap tabs on the backing plates, and replace the molded
pin on the axle if you want the steering to work and stay steady.
I had to do that after as the plates were becoming very Sloppy and broke

I think i'm just going to wait, and try for a cheaper one. I just don't like to drop $50 or more on a builder. Thanks for the info guys.

THE SUPER VAN WAS REISSUED BY TESTOR'S. SINCE THEY ACQUIRED A LOT OF THE MOLDS FROM IMC( INDUSTRO-MOTIVE CORP, TROY,MI ) I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT ISSUED BY AMT, UNLESS IT WAS DURING THE YEARS OF THE STRIKE, WHEN THEY OFFERED A LOT OF THE JOHAN MODELS UNDER THE AMT LOGO . ( EXAMPLES AMX, OLDS FUNNY CAR, MAVERICK ETC.)CASEY IF YOU HAVE THE SUPER VAN BOX ART WITH AN AMT LOGO ON I'D LIKE TO SEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!JACEN THAT ISSUE IS THE FIRST ONE FROM IMC, AND A LITTLE HARD TO GET. 2ND ISSUES SHOULD BE CHEAPER. I THINK BARRIS MADE THE REAL VAN FOR THE PLAYMATE OF THE YEAR? THE MOVIE CAME AFTER THAT! A LITTLE HELP ON THIS ONE!! GUYS?

It wasn't an AMT kit, I screwed that up. Showrods.com has it listed as an AMT kit when it should say Testors.

IIRC, Chop, Cut & Rebuild followed along on the resto of the 1:1 van, and Mark posted the progress shot above.
