Think this part only appeared in one particular kit.

Looks like a gas cap.

It's hard to get any sense of scale on this one, but my guess was a hubcap, too...'61 Ranchero, maybe? It's looks 13"-ish if it is a hubcap. ![]()

I've got several rancheros and its not a hubcap from that kit. Looking at the size of the sprue, it really looks like a knock off gas cap. MPC maybe?

OK, I'll give a clue. it isn't a hubcap.

Hey Don, are you the "Don Sikora ll" from Consumer Guide Automotive?

Yes, that's me.

Could it be a gas cap for a Corvette kit? possibly '63 Roadster?

It's not from a Corvette kit. The kit's instructions describe this part as a custom gas filler cap, but when it is located it doesn't cover the kit's stock gas filler cap.

I'm struggling with this one. '70s Camaro? I know some of those had a gas cap that went on the trunk lid, but haven't found a match.

I've owned two 1960 El Caminos but couldn't find a photo of the tailgates so I found this one on line . It's the trim cap that goes where the window crank was on station wagons . Same part was also used on 1959 El Caminos . It should be in the AMT 1959 kit .

No, not from a '70s Camaro. There is some resemblance with the El Camino medallion shown above, but this part is not from the AMT '59 El Camino or the SMP '60 El Camino kits. The part was not made by AMT or SMP, and it isn't from a Chevy kit.

Must be MPC. ![]()

Nope, not from a MPC kit either.

OK, so the year is 1963, not AMT, SMP, or MPC. Means its a Jo-Han, correct? If its Revell, I have no freakin clue........
Posted 16 January 2013 - 08:22 AM
I don't think it was confirmed that 1963 was the year? I'm still stumped... if it's Revell or Jo-Han I'm probably not going to get it.

Sorry, neither of the two kits with this part is on there... perhaps I went too obscure. Another clue: horsepower got the year right yesterday.
As per Horsepower, its 1963. Is it from a Buick?

Yes, mine was from a '63 Buick - Don got it and we're on a new one now!
