Most of the model contests in Wash. are early year shows. There are a couple of IPMS shows in and around the Seattle area early on. An automotive contest in Mt Vernon somewhere around Feb. or March. A really nice contest in or around May or early June in Puyallup and a couple of shows over the border in the early part of the year.
If you want to travel just a bit there are also some good shows throughout the year down in the Portland area culminating with a really good IPMS contest at the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, OR, which is just outside Portland. That show is usually in September.

Closer to you will still find a Goodguys show at the fairgrounds in Puyallup in July. I still believe that they have a model contest in conjunction with this show. Spokane may also still have one of these shows in late Summer as well.

A quick check of the magazine website calendar of events pages should give you some insight as well as the IPMS upcoming events page on their site.
