Thanks Bill, I got the idea for the frame after cutting off the front fenders. These old AMT kits leave a lot to be desired but, still an awful lot of fun and remain on my favorite list. The ingraving is really heavy in places and the body appears to be already sectioned. I wish it had a dropped axel also. The revell kits are seriously more realistic.

Nice thing about the Phaeton is that it has separately-molded rear suspension like the Vicky, but unlike the blobular 5-window and roadster chassis.

My 32 has a Revell frame for reason of access to the interior after I weld the body to the fenders, so I can't throw it into this build. I WILL be doing it in spirit though! Here's a last peek here so and you'll have to keep up with my On the Workbench build to see it progress .. but it will be slow a usual anyway.



All these old AMT builds here are looking really fine!

Looking forward to what you've got planned

Here's my phirst mockup of the 'Phord Phantom Phaeton' phor stance, wheel & tire options, etc. These rims are resin American Racing 'salt phlats' (thanks Casey ) that I widened phor the rear. There is a Phantom Vickie phrame under there, didn't take much to get it to work with this old AMT design phunny how that worked out...

Well. Deep subject. S'been a while, but I'm still working on her.....

To get the stance I want with the AMT frame, it's going to have to be zeed. More like a new rear section of kickup actually. Marked the position of the axle centerline on the body, then drew in rails that would give me clearance over them for the axle tubes and spring ends.



Made a pair of rail ends....



....glued them on....



..... and hogged out the center of the old blobular bit. I'm leaving the rear stuff in place for strength while I re-work the sides of the rails.



Next trick is to widen the frame so it fits the body like it's s'posed to. It's WAY too narrow in order to clear the fender unit when it's used.



The rails are supposed to look like this relative to the body.

I like where your's is going Ace-Garage Guy! Nice work on the chassis. I'm trying to get the front end lowered on mine, any suggestions? I started making a brass tube axel but, I don't know if this is allowed. Any help will be appreciated.
