Here's my basic build of the AMT Opel GT reissue. It's box stock except for flocking, BMF, the license plate and a bit of work to correct the ride height in front. Might stick with newer kits for a while--boy have they improved!

The second model I did as a kid was the Opel GT. Mine is yellow and sort of burgandy.

Nice ! I bought one new in 1970 Tried building one when I got back into modeling, but it is just too small. I'm champing at the bit to build the 1/20th scale one I have stashed.

Beautiful, perhaps my favorite car of all time. AMT is supposed to be reissuing this kit in the next year or so. Mike, you have a 1/20? Tell us more about it please!!!!!!

It's a Japan kit with opening doors and hood by Nakamura. It's a motorized kit,but looks pretty accurate.I Thought about casting it.Anyone interested?

Interested? Yes, most definatly. Can I afford it? Highly unlikely. Maybe we could do a trade or someting. You say the kit is motorized, yet has a seperate hood. Is there engine and chassis detail? Could you post or email me pics?

Thanks for the kind words, guys! I didn't get too ambitious with this one, given the kit's limitations and my own, but it was a neat subject to work with. I'd love to see that 1/20 kit!

No major fit issues except predictably with the hood, which is slightly too short and doesn't want to sit flush in the closed position. Weirdly, the lower part of the nose (from bumper height down) is integral to the floorpan in this kit. To prevent an ugly seam and potential fitting problems at final assembly, I cut it out of the floorpan and glued it to the body before painting. If I recall correctly (having done this one in fits and starts) I also trimmed the front inner fenders somewhat to get the chassis to mate cleanly into the body. The most pleasant surprise was that the glass all fit like a dream. This is not a bad kit, though it would be a challenge to create a proper engine bay. Lots of flash, of course, and several mold lines on the body that needed attention.

Real nice Opel Steve. I like the color you chose. I just restored one glue bomb. I painted it a metallic red and put K&S Pittman decals on it. If you'd like I can post a pic of it. Dan
