We don't need another '57 Chevy ( except maybe a convertible),
We don't need another Camaro,
We don't need another '32 ford,
But don't you think its time for a "New" 289 Cobra?
Maybe a Daytona Coupe as well ?

Idon't think the Academy kit is going to happen. All the press is a few years old.

Interesting thread here. I have several vintages of the AMT kit, and never knew it had Halibrand's as an option! I've always thought it was a great kit, though I thought it had a 260, but they look alike.

As to the Revell 427, what makes it bad? I think the shape is pretty spot on.....

I managed toi score an old Revell FIA roadster body on evilbay that needs some restoration, but it'll make a great looking car when done.

First issue had the Halibrand Kidneybean mags. Later kits had five spoke Cragars.

I just happen to have one of the first Cobra's in my collection. I have included the box photo as well as the wheels.

Good thing Round2 is putting those wheels back in this re-issue.

IIRC, Fujimi put out a 427 Cobra about 10 years ago and took a lot of flak over a thick windshield frame...

The Fujimi kit IMHO is good for the body maybe the wheels but I will take a Revell kit over it anyday!

But even this is toy-like compared to say, the 1/12 Enzo kit-also $400 now.
This is a nice try but not enough to make me pop for it. Dash 12 lines like spaghetti, mystery lines to carb, just a little too much rear fender height, the pan, blocky tires, hinges and the finishes on most plastic.

cato, maybe i should have said few "affordable" diecasts were made in the 289 body style. that would leave exoto out of the picture and if gmp had made anything under a 100.00 im not aware of it.

You can often find the Exoto Cobras for $98, usually the competition versions or the black soft-top one.

I really wish someone would do a 'nice' 1:18 version of the 427 on par with the Exoto 260/289. The Kyosho 1:18 is just a nicely painted Yat Ming with better wheels and not much else, including the awful body shape. The Shelby Collectibles version has a better body but detail is lacking.

The one Cobra I'd personally LOVE to see is a street version 427. Halibrand Sunburst wheels, no roll hoops or side pipes, full bumpers.

The Kyosho 1:12 is pretty darn accurate, especially in the rear fenders. Compare it to a real car's profile and you can see this for yourself. It's nothing like their 1:18 which you might be thinking about, which is awful.

If you want something less toylike, the GMP 1:12 289 is gorgeous.

Small correction Brian. Kelsey Hayes made the Sunburst, not Halibrand.
