While editing a recording this evening I decided it was time I stopped letting my right thumb have all the fun and find gainfull employment for the rest of my fingers. This project had been nagging at me for awhile now and i've decided...it's time! :)

I did not let my convalescence go to waste. I used the time to cabbage in several different shades of pink paints. This way I keep the theme throughout, but get each area of the model to pop and be more easily seen.
Posted Image
I've also decided I just didn't like the body I started with after the whole roof debacle. It will be fixed at some point but for now i'm using another body, hence the reboot. ;)
Posted Image
I also need to run out tomorrow and pick up the paint for the frame. The one shot I have shows a fairly straightforward black chassis. This simply will not do for a showcar. I figure gun metal grey or maybe a nice pewter frame will go nicely with the pink body.
Posted Image
SO...tomorrow I will collect the proper paint and spend a little time with my airbrush, and we'll see if we can get this project back on track! ;)

I promise not to make a bad pun about you being "back in the pink" but it is good to see this one back on the bench.

Only if your name is Fry...or Dave!

Okay, quick problem here. Normally I would put this in "how do I" but it involves this project. I want to get rid of the incorrect wheels (replace with Cragar SS) and the terrible tires, in this kit. To replace the tires I need a new set of white walls (to make pink). So I pick out a nice set of tires with white walled inserts ala the '58 Belvedere kit. These beautifull SS rims...do not fit! I'm getting TIRED of these kinds of issues (that one's for you Bryan! :P )

So here's the question- I know I can sand the plastic inserts to match, but how do I (can I) sand the tires to fit? Believe it or not, in all my years i've never had to sand the inside of a tire. Tread surface scuffs are no issue but I might have to take some off here. Should I just cut it?

if it has inserts, i usually trim the inside of it to fit the wheel......i just did it on those wire wheels i sanded so they actually looked like spokes. i cut them larger with a #11 blade.

hope this helped

Ever take stupid pills? They work incredibly well! Not having a fresh #11 on hand I stumbled across my Dremel rack while looking for a solution. then I thought DUH! Bar-rel san-der!. So I chucked my half inch into the Dremel and viola!
Posted Image
I wasn't entirely sure I would like the end result, since the actual car has a space of black between the whitwall and rim, but i'm kind of digging them now. I guess i'll know better if I like them once the wheels have Alclad on them. :D

Well, i've gotten started re-doing the front fender flares. The ones on this kit are just a little weak so i'm adjusting them. Next i'll add some 3M spot putty to round in the joint.

While I really like the tires and whitewalls from the 58 Belvedere because of the detail, I also like the black border between the sidewall and the rims. The original kit tires fit under the fenders better too. I'm really torn on which way to go here.

I must warn you that I'm an incorrigible and should not be "incorriged".

Tough call on the wheels, but I think this build would look better with some kind of whitewall.

That makes a bit more sense. I hope I didn't cause a brain overload!

No...that's funny either way...it was the whitewall comment I didn't get. In the pic I posted both tires have a whitewall...albeit one of them is pink.

I went a different way with the frame. Instead of the gunmetal I went with fire red ans brilliant silver on the torsion bar setup.

Now it's just a matter of picking out the details with some contrasting paint. ;) I'm thinking maybe a cosmoline kinda gold for the control arms.

Just a thought...if you have an old tire like the one on the right, try running a fine tip Sharpie around the rim to give it a little separation between the rim and whitewall. Never tried it so I don't know how it will look, the thought just popped into my head while I was looking at it...

That's actually a good idea Alby. I once did a Chitty Bang Bang model, and the wheels had narrow black pinstripes on the spokes. I used a black, fine point pen and a straight edge to apply them. I might have to try that here. Thanks.

That was my problem, I didn't really see the whitewall on the right due to the lack of seperation from the rim.

You know guys, i'm really going to have to do something about this tire and wheel thing. I either need to find a smaller set of Cragar SS's, or a better set of whitewalls. I absolutely will not use the original crappy kit tires any more than I will lose an argument to an inanimate object!
