I love that show. Seen every episode and loved them. Loved that episode with this car in it too. This going to be a great build.

This ought to be a really cool build.
Haven't ever watched the series. But I have to ask, Did they call the Chally in the picture a NEW Challenger?
It's actually a 1970. You can tell by the door handles, side markerlights, and of course the rally wheels.
Not calling you wrong for building the new style. I think it'll be really, really cool. Just wondering if they on the show labeled it as the NEW Chally.

In the episode "Drift Problem", Archer is given the Challenger as a gift. While it is only described as "The Dodge Challenger secret agent edition" It is quite obviously a 1970. HOWEVER, as described earlier in this thread, the show is a mix of '70's and modern technologies. Obviously the 1970 Challenger did not have an onboard touch screen computer. The current Challenger's do. If you check this screen cap you'll notice the current Dodge logo front plate, that also did not exist in 1970.

So...with that in mind (and since we are talking about a cartoon here) I decided this build would be a modern Challenger with retro Rallye wheels. Mainly because I got the kit for 2$ at a yard sale.

I will eventually build the 1970 Challenger with Vector wheels as seen in the episode "The man from Jupiter" starring Burt Reynolds. ;)...and the GTX...and the Camaro...and... :D

That's cool Jacen.
I just don't know anything about the show. I knew you had said that you pickd it at a garage sale for a couple bucks, and were gonna use it. Just didn't know what they had to say of the car. Again, I think it's gonna be really cool. Cant wait to see more.

Fresh from the mold.

Not the best wheel but it'll have to do. I'm thinking if I do a little cosmetic work on the rim and lay the basecoat a little thicker than normal I should be able to make them workable.
I'm almost ready to paint the body and it occured to me, that the actual color has never been mentioned for the car, so it's kinda up to me. I mean it's obvious the car is a shade of black or dark grey, so i'm going to play around with a few paints and see if I can come up with a custom color that's...I don't know...Archerish? :D

After a little consideration, I decided I might as well get ready with the Vectors for the other build. With some paint on them the Rallye's look pretty good now.

I'm sure the car, like his turtlenecks, is either black, or a slightly darker black. lol great show.. great idea. can't wait to see more.

Archer certainly is fond of his turtlenecks! I'm torn about the color though. I was going to try a black with a subtle mist of clear pearl over it, but as we all know Archer is anything but subtle. ;) Then I started going over the pics again and it honestly looks like a low glare satin black in some shots, but in others there's a reflection.
Being a not-so-secret secret agent, one would think Archer would go for the gloss, but it is the "Dodge Challenger secret agent edition"...

So here's what i'm thinkin. I'm going to do the 1970 car from the Burt Reynolds episode, and lord knows niether he or Hal Needham would be caught dead in anything less than high gloss black! SOoooo, this one gets the low glare, secret agent edition, ultra bulletproof composite body panel paint job...I mean satin black. :P

So, I have a little more tweaking to do on the bumper corners (mold seams) and it's into the booth it goes. Wish me luck...I suck at black paint jobs.

Remember the sarcastic catch phrase "THAT went well!" <_< ? I think it applies here. Sometimes no matter what you do it turns out so wrong. I washed the car. I wet sanded the car with 2,000 then 3,000 grit. I washed the car again.

Posted Image

The driver's side QP has so much fisheye I felt like Jacque Cousteau! It's a little tough to see in this pic but it's so bad I don't think it can be saved. A wet sand might level it out but the paint will in the long run be so thick it'll start obscuring details so it.s off to the pond!

The passenger side fared better but not by much.
Posted Image
On the plus side I think it's the exact patina I was looking for. It's Krylon Fusion satin black over colorplace flat. (I think that's actually the problem)
Posted Image

I did cut the caltrop door open and i'm planning on a working door/license plate holder.
Posted Image

I'm considering opening the glove box for the wet bar, but i'm not sure I can come up with the decanter and glasses.

NOPE! I would have nothing to do with him if he was. Archer is a character unto himself just like James Bond is to himself. I would have to say he is more like Maxwell Smart if I were to liken him to another spy. The big difference between Archer and Maxwell is this. Maxwell Smart blunders through things much like Inspector Clouseau. Thanks to his support team though, things always work out for him leaving him to be able to claim credit while still being utterly clueless as to the facts.

Archer on the other hand, leads one to believe he is a blathering moron and just when you're convinced he flips the switch on you. Example:

Here is an excerpt from the episode "Space Race"
ENEMY AGENT: "...and i'm telling YOU, I did not sign up for 'Animal Farm' in SPACE!"
Archer: "Wait...there are animals?"
LANA: "No...'Animal Farm'?"
Cyril: "How do you not get that?"
Archer: "Cyril I know what an animal farm is!"
Cyril: "Not AN animal farm..."
Lana: "Animal Farm IS A BOOK!"
Archer: "No it isn't Lana, it's an allegorical novella on Stalinism, by George Orwell and spoiler alert...IT SUCKS!"
:D

Oh yeah...and Sean Connery IS the only James Bond! ;)

I will be back with more tomorrow. I'm taking the night off at the request of a fiance' who is determined to spend one night without smelling paint.

Okay I had a thought here. For the diehard fans of the show watching this thread I thought we'd play a little game as we go along. There has been mention of a live action movie possibly. So it got me to wondering, who could play the live counterparts to the main characters? Aisha Tyler has already said she would literally go into the octagon and fight anyone who tried to take Lana from her, and I personally can think of noone better suited to the role. However, some of the other characters are not so easy to replace. I thought it would be a fun go-along with this thread to see whom you all would chose. We'll limit it to the top ten characters and you don't have to come up with matches to all of them, just whoever you can. I've already spoken to Harry P. about this and he's okay with it. Just follow the regular board rules.

The last two are demolitions expert Ray Gillette and Archer's nemeses (and doppelganger) Barry/other Barry.

I'll be back later tonight with a build update and until then, have some fun with this. :D

I've never thought of it before, but this just popped into my head for the bar glasses...check out the clear jewelry beads in a craft store, find the style and shape you want and drill them out, voila!!
