Very nice. I'm really getting into the older cars from the '50s-60s, on a kick lately. You did a great job on this.

Clyde, I am going to actually have to call Kyle or Richard on this one. I believe, but I could be wrong, that the light seen on the car from 1953 to 1955 was there fro extra visibility. From 1949 to 1952 The Petty family would pile into the car, and ride to the track where the car would be stripped down somewhat and prepared for racing. After the race it would be put back together and driven home. Interesting to note that during the early years Lee's wife and Richard and Maurice's mother Elizabeth was actually part of the pit crew. In 1953 they started towing the race car behind the family car to and from the races. On dark two lane roads at night this truck light would add visibility by letting oncoming traffic know there was another vehicle being towed behind the headlights that they saw. Why it wasn't removed for the race by Lee or NASCAR is anyone's guess. For 1956 the team had built or bought thier first trailer and the light on the car was no longer necessary.

I believe this to be the case but my memory is fuzzy so i'm going to give them a call and say howdy anyway. I'll let you know if it turns out to be something different. ;)

that makes sence - I was going to take a guess and say it was for lee to let the team know he was pitting, but as i said that would be a guess
