... putting together a nascar kit. i am a drag/pro street kind of guy but would like to dabble in the nascar world. not really into the modern stuff so i was thinking on a fictional 70 coronet or maybe a 67 coronet or GTX/belvedere. i have a couple of 69 pro modeler daytonas that i think the nascar parts in there would work on the 70 coronet, but what about the 67 cars? can i use the parts from the same daytona for these? i also have a few of the 64 plymouth lindburg nascar. would like to build that one though. any suggestions would be helpful. maybe some shots of your built cars from this era.

thanks in advance

you could probably google the year nascar you wish to build, and find some reference material

Google Images is your friend. Resource materials that used to be impossible to find are all over the 'net.

It wouldn't need to be fictional as far as the Coronet is concerned, there were a few that ran. First of all take a close look at the parts in that Lindbergh kit and compare them to what's in the Daytona kit. Anything NASCAR about that Daytona kit...is fictional. the guys are right. In this case Google is going to be your best friend, as long as you use the right key words! Get together a list of the years you want to work with, the makes and models of cars you are into and of course a smattering of NASCAR terms and track names. Then try every possible combination of these terms. Sometimes very little will come up under what you would think to be the most obvious terms. Other times a plethora will come up under a search term you never would have tried first. Don't discount that "show more" button at the bottom of the page either.

As for the usage of one parts set to another, you could use the Lindbergh 1964 parts in conjunction with the 1967. However there are certain moments in NASCAR time that go through thier own rebirth. From 1967 to 1968 there was a pretty big change in roll cage configuration and design and again between 1970 and 1971. You'll want to research safety innovations as well such as the window net, which most people new to NASCAR would assume was just always there. It actually came into use in mid 1970 after Richard Petty's horrible crash at Talladega. (He and his wife invented it)

Finally, spend as much time as you can looking through the pages right here in the NASCAR section of this forum. There are litterally dozens of great builds right here going from this years Daytona race all the way back to the first Daytona race. I can't help you with all of it but if you need to know about a detail of a Petty car, just ask. Good luck with your quest.

EDIT: Once again I mixed up Talladega and Darlington! Darlington is where Richard had his famous 1970 crash. Many thanks Bob Spedding for calling me out on that one. :)

I been a member since maybe 2005 and even in my infancy they were very helpful. I guess it might depend on how you approach them.

I have not been a member but have been watching the goings on over there. My best friend Kevin (MAGNUM4342) was treated quite poorly over there and wound up leaving the site. He did make a couple new friends there but there were more juvenile, sophmoric, I-have-to-be-right-and-you-will-listen types than any board has a right to. Convinced of thir own superiority they would rather mock and debase a person rather than pay attention to what's being said and respond cordially.

hm i havent been on much the last yr as i got Nascar kit burnout..But anyhow back on track it might sound weird, but your local library MAY have a nascar book or two with old school photos and referrence also. If you're into that sort of thing?

I would look for a copy of "Vintage and Historic Stock Cars" by Dr. John Craft. It covers stock cars from 1950 to the late eighties. Another good book is "The cars of the King" by Bill Coulter. There are quite a few of these kinds of resources. ;)

thanks for all your help. i will try all avenues suggested. i did not mean to stir up any contraversy. not looking to build a dead nuts car, just cant build anything out of the box. thought one of these would make a neat car you dont see every day.
