i figured this out from another forum where he wanted to make a addition to a figure but make it removable to sanding and casting. also was used in a diecast forum where the guy made a widebody benz using the same method he hollowed out the back of the part to reduce its mass and tuck the wheel.

basically wrapped the area i was gonna work on

mixed 2 part sculpting putty
shaped it and sculpted it to resemble my part in this case a convertible boot

once it was dry i peeled the tape and the boot came out did some cleaning and here it is, still some sanding left to do but the part fits flush

what kind of putty are you using? (brand, where you got it, etc...) What is the working time you get from it? Going back to my days of customizing hot wheels, I've been using a 2-part marine epoxy putty. ( Marine meaning it can be used and can even cure while submersed in water.) But if you don't have it mixed and in place within 5 minutes, all you'll have is a big chunk of wasted putty.

You'll get an even better fit if you use Bare Metal Foil instead of tape.
