Humm , , Anyone know of any company selling clear resin headlight lenses?
Seems to me it'd be a good seller for replacing missing lenses and for people like me who sometimes like to replace molded in chrome lenses with clear ones.

Casey had thread where he was experimenting with casting lenses, but I'm not sure if he sells them. I'm sure he'll chime in when he sees this.

I don't know of anyone casting just a clear lens but there is a company called ModellTruck that sells really nice photo etch lights. They are a photo etch backing with a clear, red or amber lens molded onto the backing. the backing has "facets" so the lights look very realistic! Here's a link to them:

I made a few batches, but I didn't and don't sell them. It was more of a trial run for me, using Alumilte's Clear Casting resin, just to see how they would turn out. They looked great fresh out of the mold and cured...:

...but they have yellowed a bit since I made them. Nothing horrible, but they simply aren't clear enough for my liking. The clear resin is a bit tricky to work with and I don't have much experience with it, so I'm not sure if I'll ever dabble in it again.

Hi Mike, yes KFS parts can be ordered from England and shipped to the US if that's what you mean? Howard is really great to deal with as well! He has his own website: http://www.kitformservices.com/

Those PE lenses kind of defeat the purpose of drilling out the headlights to begin with ! Maybe they could be cast with something other than clear resin so they won't yellow . Maybe epoxy ? Just a thought .

I get my clear lens from a caster and they have never yellowed and look real nice.
I will ask him what resin he uses.

Thanks for the input guys. It's giving me some things to think about.
I do have a good assortment of MV lenses but the lack of prism detail is a drawback.
Phil, thanks for the link. Those do look pretty good.

I use Smooth On Crystal Clear to make my head light lenses. Doesn't yellow over time. Make sure to wear a respirator...it doesn't smell but you'll get a soar throat without a mask.

Yes, figure out what he's doing, please! I have lenses from two different casters in my stash and all of them have yellowed beyond use.
