Just announced from RoG, and its official...not reboxed Fujimi, Italeri, Protar, or Gunze Sangyo.  The kit is ALL NEW TOOLING.  July 2013 release.

Not so sure it's a new tool, I noticed several other kits listed say "Neue Form" which would be New  form or mold and this one didn't say that.

Either way, I'm getting one.  It's going to be a good year for modelling.

I don't think it's a new tool either... just a reissue of their old kit, which is still available on ebay and various other places, BTW. Besides, I wouldn't get too excited about the reissue just yet either.

In the beginning of 2012 they announced a reissue of the old Italeri tool 250 SWB (a much rarer model kit than the GTO) scheduled for summer, but several months later, without explanation, the announcement was withdrawn and the kit was never released

When someone who is in the know tells me "new tool", I tend to believe him.  If I am misinformed I will publicly apologize.  Fair enough?

 

As for the SWB, the reason why you never saw the kit is because RoG and Italeri could not come to terms on a price for the run.  When such things happen, you don't always get the benefit of a press release or some kind of public statement.  The reason I know is, I ASKED.  Then again, its my job to.  Ask my boss.

I certainly hope so.  The SWB was a fine kit, and it would be great to have it back.  The same goes for the 275GTB/4 twins, which IMO were among the best of Italeri's car kits. 

 

Again, it depends on whether or not Revell Germany and Italeri can come to a mutually acceptable deal on the price for bagged shots.  Italeri may be asking too much, in Revell's eyes. On the other hand, Ferrari licensing may be part of the stumbling block here, as RoG would have to pay the royalties, and those on top of Italeri's price for the run may just not be cost-effective for them.

 

The kit you linked to is indeed the ex-Protar 250GTO.  Not a bad kit, and Italeri's wasn't a bad kit either.

 

I have now heard two different stories on the new announced RoG GTO: one was that its a new state-of-the-art tool, the other is that RoG is buying bagged shots of ITALERI's (not Protar's) GTO.  Then again, they could be buying bagged shots from Fujimi or Gunze for that matter!  Now *I* am skeptical too.  And if being a reissue is indeed the case, I apologize for, as we say here in the USA, "jumping the gun."

 

In any event, we are graced with a 250 GTO, probably the most famous of all of Ferrari's legendary Gran Turismo coupes.  Perhaps one day, as I have been wishing for nearly 30 or so years, we might live long enough to see one of our esteemed model companies grace us with a proper 1/24 scale 250GT Berlinetta Lusso???????

Once again, thanks for all the info.

I do have the Esci-Ertl SWB but that one is all wrong on so many levels, and an Italeri re-pop sure would have been nice

Anyhow, let's hope we do see some of these older Ferrari cars on the market again... Reissues or new tools, doesn't matter to me, as long as they're available.

Double that.  I have a resin Lusso that needs a donor kit, but it would be SUPER      to have a plastic Lusso in 1/24

Did I pass judgement on anyone? In which part of my post? It certainly was not my intention to do so, but I sincerely apologize if I did. English is not my mother tongue so I might have not expressed myself adequately or appropriately enough, but telling me that I'm just blowing hot steam, so to speak, is borderline offensive on your behalf. And, if I must justify my opinions to you, I would firstly like to point out that I am not twelve years old and I base ALL of them on personal experience, in this case disappointment with Revell's announcement of certain Ferrari kits that never came out in the end. That said, I will refrain from further participation in this topic, and will do my best to proceed in a strictly matter of fact manner in my communications on this forum

Well, register me as another emphatic vote for the Lusso - though I'd be plenty pleased to see Revell AG's own take on a GTO, if they were so inclined.

 

The Fujimi 250GTO pretty much crushed all its predecessors in my book... but that doesn't mean it left no room for improvement.
