What do y'all use to mask off  with NO bleed? I've tried the rubbery liquid mask and hate it. Ever use bare metal foil?

Lots of folks here use BMF. I can see the advantages. Being a returnee to the hobby, that's one tip I've got bookmarked and will use on my 61 Impala.

I use Frog tape from the Sherwin Williams store.  The yellow Frog tape.  It's like Tamiya tape but a hole lot more for your money.  Dan

l use Scotch 3M blue painters tape, then spray just enough clear to "seal" the mask from bleed thru. I do lotsa flames & multi colors with no issues.

It won't as long as you don't burnish it down like it will be permanent. A quick swipe with a thumb or finger attaches BMF well enough to be a mask without damage in removal. I also use 3M masking tape, but alot of folks feel it's too prone to picking up fuzz on it's edges but i've had pretty good success with it.

Carl, I would LOVE to try the Tamiya but i've just never been able to find it! I was beginning to think it mythical. I am going up to Canton Ohio tomorrow and there's a new hobby shop i'm hoping has it. How does it compare to other tapes? Any drawbacks at all?

Tamiya tape is the best hands down. The blue masking tape is good also, but not as good as Tamiya.

If you get it,spend the extra money and get the dispenser. It keeps the sides of the tape from collecting those fuzzies that will sometimes end up in your paint job. I use the 6mm for the edges and the blue tape for the rest.

I have been using scotch magic tape since it's release with excellent results. I like that I can use the transparency of the tape to see just how well my edges are sealed before paint work.

i'll give it a try - cause i certainly can't get it to look like chrome! i have better luck with photo etch than i do with BMF.

thanks
