i'll give it a try - cause i certainly can't get it to look like chrome! i have better luck with photo etch than i do with BMF.

thanks

I've found that alot of guys having trouble with the patina of the chrome BMF were burnishing too hard and dulling it. One other guy I know, was putting his over flat paint and it wouldn't stick right kinda like paint on plating. Then when it did stick he had rubbed it down so much most of the chrome shine was gone.

The Scotch brand magic frosted tape works real well too, as long as you don't expect it to do tricks. In other words it doesn't do turns, compound curves or textures. It can be cut into strips narrower than spec to get it around turns and compound curves but due to it's nature you can't mask things like textured seats with it without getting bleed under.

I've had a little success with the blue (frog?) painter's tape that supposedly has a non bleed through design but blimey if I didn't get it to bleed! (Remember though guys...i'm the only person ever to cut themself with an electric razor  )

As for the Tamiya, I just picked up two rolls in the dispenser deally. With two cats in the house i've learned to protect my tapes as much as possible and the little guard should help. :)

The adhesive on blue "long-mask" tape reacted with my polished-out clearcoat (Duplicolor) resulting in a grainy surface which then needed to be re-wetsanded and polished out again. Fortunately, my clearcoat was applied thick enough to allow it otherwise I'd have been screwed.

Tamiya tape is well-worth the expense, and that's coming from a confirmed cheapskate. ;)

Tamiya is superior by far.

I buy mine from Hobylinc, 10 rolls at a time of the 6mm, 10mm and 18mm.

Purchase the dispensors and all you need from then on is just the rolls themselves.

Hobylinc always has discounts and sale prices on Tamiya.
