Any suggestions what could be used to thin it down with?

No idea, but you can get a different liquid cement that is already about as thin as water. Get a can of MEK at the hardware store. It's a strong solvent, so use sparingly. I apply it with a tiny paintbrush. Don't use brushes like the type on the bottom of a cap. It will hold too much MEK. Test it first so you don't melt your prized kit parts.

Tamiya also makes a super-thin-consistency liquid glue ; look for the stuff with the Green  cap . It's used for when parts are clamped-together ; either brush the glue over-into the joints , or drop a small amount in a gap in the joint . It dries quickly and strong .

I would just buy another type of glue. I use the old fashioned Testors, Tamiya Extra Thin, superglue, CA, and Mr. Hobby. There really isn't one glue that does it all IMO.
