Here's the "Countdown" issue kit ,,

IMG_1403-vi.jpg

Again, it's chrome tree and a closeup of the slotted wheels.

IMG_1404-vi.jpg

Seems to be a lot of blank spaces on this tree.

IMG_1405-vi.jpg

And the unplated parts. Again, not as many as you'd think should be there but the kit IS complete as it came. It was sealed when I got it a couple years ago.

IMG_1406-vi.jpg

, , , And here's that '80's issue in red plastic with the turbine wheels instead of the slotted ones.

IMG_1408-vi.jpg

Guess what ,,, as shown on the box art build, all the stray parts are in THIS VERSION !

IMG_1407-vi.jpg

There's the missing drag parts. Seems this is actually the most complete version of the three except for the wheels.

[btw, those headers are in all three versions]

The only thing I see that was missing from my '80s release is the strait axle. However, it did have a tonneau cover for the passenger seat which I do not see here.

Ah...ok, so the Countdown Series doesn't have the drag parts...that's how I remember it, built it as a kid.   I saw the pic above and realized I don't have the '07 issue--I have the '07 issue of the '59 Corvette, which was shown in gold on the box IIRC.  Never had the '80s issue.  I also have one that I bought as a builtup w/ an opening decklid, must be a '60s issue?

I'm surprised the drag parts are missing from the '60s Sizzle kit, since they are in the 50th Anniversary issue from about 2002 or 2003. I built this unpainted one from a 50th Ann. kit a couple years ago to see how it would look. Think I added the tires, but everything else was in the kit. The open steel wheels that were in the original Sock It Too Me are in the 50th kit too, but they need holes drilled to fit the wire axles.

The original '62 Vette annual kit had an opening trunk. When it was reworked for the late '60s reissues, the opening trunk was eliminated.

I built an orignal 62 Corvette in 62, with an opening trunk. I can't remember if it was an AMT or SMP.

The red issue has the tonneau too but I didn't take a pic of it.

These appear to be the same wheels, only de-chromed? I can't tell if wheel #3 (the first rear wheel, left to right) has a flashed over center bore or not, but it looks like #4 does:

Are the "'60s Sizzle" issue wheel just so laden with undercoating that the texture is lost after they were plated?

And why does the Countdown go from 62, 61, 60, then back up to 69?, 68, 67???

The wheels in the first chrome tree posted and the orig. SITM kit were also used as the front wheels in the 67 Cyclone AWB kits.

Also, ALL the drag parts except the slotted wheels and hard top are in the 94 issue (1962 Chevrolet Corvette convertble kit #6489 ) where the built up on the box art is black

I agree with Alan on the black box art version having all the drag parts except for the wheels.

I just checked my Model King reissue of the '67 Cyclone AWB and the wheels in that kit are slotted Halibrands, but not the same tooling as the Sock it To Me versions. I wonder if Model King changed the tool when they reissued it - or maybe AMT changed it back when they did the Street Freak series (assuming this kit was part of the Street Freak series - I can't recall).

No Casey, the plating good. The wheels themselves are smoother.

I guess it was supposed to look like it wrapped around...never noticed that.   The 'Countdown Series' kits give me warm fuzzies, as kits from that series were the first AMT glue kits I ever built as a kid back in the day..my gateway to AMT...

Other than nostalgia and the decals, I'm not seeing any reason to purchase this kit over Revell's '62. The AMT kit's headlights are tiny and chrome plated(!), and the whole nose looks ad if it was stretched vertically.

Wait, is this about the hardtop, again?

I was going to get this kit to build the drag/boneville version, but now it seems like I will be saving some money seeing how wonderfully this kit compares to the Revell version.

Thanks a lot guys for saving me money!

They will probably through in a set of printed slicks, too.

Sorry, the headlights, front end and chassis are far too much for me now that Revell has done the subject light years better.

Anybody get a metallic orange one yet? Wondering if it will be translucent like the Manx. Joe.
