I believe Don is right... since I got the story right from Jim Keeler.

Chrysler had sent Revell a real slant 6 to model the big slant six kit.  Once used for that purpose it was sitting in Keeler's office when Tex came to visit. They were talking about Tex's newest project and Tex said he hadn't figured out what engine to use yet... so Keeler suggested the slant six that was sitting there on the floor.   So the irony is that the engine in the XR6 is the Revell Big Slant Six,  and the car was modeled by AMT.

I heard the story from Keeler too.

Here's the next question....in three parts.

On a side panel of the box from the original issue of Monogram's Big T kit there is a four-digit number on the "rear license plate." What's the number? It is significant in two ways, what are they?

OK, maybe this was too obscure. The picture shows the number in question: 8601. It's significant to the company in one way, and the kit itself in another. Why?

That's correct for the company part...the Morton Grove plant was still pretty new when this kit came out.

Look at the number another way and you might see something about the kit in it.

Was the price $10.98?  Turn it over and insert the correct symbols?

I don't have any trivia now, so somebody else go ahead if I'm right.

Correct!

Would someone else like to go?

I'll take a crack at it; I spotted this myself but I don't know how well-known it is:

AMT made a really embarrassing mistake on the '63 Tempest promo; it was corrected at some point (on the kit only?). What was it?

Maybe they left 1962 on the license plates ?

Nope... it's not exactly a typo.

A 4 door interior with a 2 door body?

Nope again. Hint: It's a very small detail but it's not an omission - an omission wouldn't be so embarrassing.

Yes! ...although not literally "molded on the body"... anyone else?

I'll bump this later for the members in Australia...

Since I've never seen a '63 ( lots of 62's out there ) I'm saying "Uncle" !

When this is over can you post some photos ?

OK, I guess I'll spill it. A few years ago I picked up (cheap) a light blue '63 Tempest convertible promo with broken bumpers and missing windshield. I got one of the AWB coupe reissue kits to get the replacement parts. When I took a close look at the promo's chrome taillight panel, I discovered that the "LeMans" lettering was engraved upside down! I checked the part on the chrome tree from the AWB kit, and the error had been corrected.

Regarding Monogram's 1/24 NFC Chevy Van kit, which NFC team's helmet was glaringly incorrect on the decal sheet?

Glaringly incorrect ?  Since you are from Wisconsin I'd say the Packers but it looks just fine .

I have an idea what's wrong but I don't know which one  .  .  .     glaringly incorrect ?

One of the colors on the team in question's helmet is wrong, but it's not the Packers.

The only thing I see is the Falcons helmet is kind of orange instead of red ,  but it could be the picture of the decals that I have .

Ooo !  The Vikings logo should be White !
