has anyone have or know of a technique that could be used to produce this look after applying decals ?

Do I do a light sanding with 1,200 sandpaper or paint over the decal ? Thanks for anyone's input.

Okay, I will try to explain a few tips that might help. you put down little dabs of elmers rubber cement, let dry, then put decal over the cement. Let it dry fully for an hour or so. Then rub off the areas with glue underneath and it will pull parts of decal away leaving the rest. That will give you the look that some of the lettering has faded completly away. Now you use different grits of sandpaper depending on how rough you would like it.12000 grit would give the closest to the picture you provided. Just go slow with two to three passes each time and inspect. Also do not use much pressure at all. Just lightly sand and scuff decal. After you do that spray or brush a dullcoat clear over the top to give it a more faded look. I hope that helps and good luck. I hope to see some pics of the final project.

Please do not post questions in the tips and techniques section... post questions in the QUESTION and Answer section. That's where (and why) I moved this.
