Saw this tonight...a 1970 AMC AMX/3 prototype. Unfortunately never saw the light of day due to the gas crisis. A mid engine, 390, 345 HP, 4 speed auto monster...I'd have LOVED to have one of these to run on the 1/4 mile....

I thought I read some wheres that it was based off of the Pantera platform.I have a curbside Pantera,be cool to try and convert it into an AMX 3.Anyone know if they make a resin version of the car.

DeTomasso designed the Pantera. Giotto Bizzarrini, who designed the '62 Ferrari GTO and cars with his own name, like the 5300 GT, designed the AMX-3. Six cars were produced, before the plug was pulled.

There was a cleaner, earlier version, more Pantera-looking AMX-2. Had some Mangusta and Mustang influence in the tail.

I don't know what structure the AMX-2 is on, but the AMX-3s were not on Pantera structure, even though there's been speculation that they were. Photos of the engine bay absolutely confirms it's not Pantera underneath.
EDIT: Apparently the AMX-2 was a hollow shell, never completed as a running prototype. This would make a cool one to build as a full detail, finished and running version.
More here on the life of the prototype....

Apparently Guido Fieuw of ScaleKraft in South Africa had one of these in the works years ago. I don't know if he ever produced any as he had a major accident years ago (mountain climbing), and got out of the hobby.
Someone else may have more info than I..........I could have sworn I seen the AMX/3 on his webpage at one time though.
