OK, so very little review and more of a look at the box top and a pic of the kit's contents:

I think this kit would be welcomed back into the AMT lineup, despite the fact that the '74s got the park bench-size bumpers. Maybe a backdated and slightly updated version with '74 Z/28 spoilers, wheels and stripes/decals would be possible as a "One Run of Fun" reissue, before the tooling is fully backdated to the '71-'72 full bumper SS version people really want?

Casey,

Do you have this kit in your own personal stash?  I think it's cool that you do these reviews...  I think it's neat that this kit includes the slicks that are "weighted".  Are they "setting still" flat or "under acceleration" flat?  I'm not sure I can tell from the pic.

I like the year of the car...I would like to see it re released for sure.   I also have that kit  but its still factory sealed so I have never seen the inside...thanks for sharing it.

Was this kit one that changed each year? Or did this one remain a '74 mold?

So many of the 70 annual molds are messed up (due to changes every year and producing hundreds of thousands of kits) - now the early, small bumper versions are hard to find.

Don't be so quick to judge those bumpers. Short track fans like myself would welcome this kit with open arms! I could use a case right now.....

I know it later got changed over to the AHC-100 Camaro. It was a replica of a conversion by the American Hatch Corporation. Basically, it was the first Camaro with what is better known as a T-top. I think it's a '77. It's been a few years since I did the research on it. I have the kit and plan on building the AHC-100 with it.

No, the pics are from an eBay listing. I really like the slicks, too, and lost out on the listing for these, which appear to be the same:

I don't know for sure, but I am assuming AMT updated their annual kits each year.

Aw, c'mon Dave. That shrink wrap'll peel off with ease, and you'll get nice big whiff of old styrene and somebody's musty basement to boot. Do it!  :D

Thanks for the up-close pics, Casey. I wonder what their OD is 90* from the flattened surface... hmmm

'less I'm mistaken, I think this kit already was backdated to a 70 1/2 Z-28 'round 1990, before AMT came back around to do a new tool in 2000...

IIRC, that kit was based on the MPC tooling which went up through '81.

I was just remembering the parts breakdown as very similar to the '74 pics above, but nope, can't rule out it was MPC.

No, you were right first time Chuck. It's definitly the old tool AMT last seen before as the AHC-100.

I have made it a mission to try and get the years possible of camaro. I have the 70, 74, 75, 76. The amt 77 ahc100., the mpc 78 through 81. Not a fan of the 3 gen and up camaro. The nice thing about the mpc camaros and firebirds is they included the racing equipment with them. Just that they were missing the exterior mirrors. Quite noticeable. The amt ahc 100 had a attempt at sport mirrors. The mpc kits also had one piece red tailights and the amt kits had two piece chrome tailights. But you could not imterchange the two.

The MPC Camaro should still exist as the '81 Z28. The last reissue of it included the hood from the '79 annual though.

My heart fluttered when I saw this thread's headline , as I thought you were implying that Round2 was going to reissue the AMT  1974-1976 Camaro !!!

Certainly , in my opinion , any 1970-1976 Camaro is a welcome addition , but especially a '71-'76 ( I cannot stand the '77 or '78 to '81 one-piece rubber piece of junk arrangement  ) .

Ne'er the less ... Thanks for the preview , Casey !

You're right Chuck. I have both kits and you can literally compare them tree for tree in a lot of cases. If you look closely inside the body of the '89 release '70 1/2 Camaro, you can see where they filled in the rear window and T- tops. With the great tooling that Round2 already has in the bank with their later release Z/28, a '71 -mid seventies Camaro would seem like a no brainer. A full bumper '71 at the very least should be made.

I would love to get a '74 Camaro kit as that was the last year of the Z-28 before it was brought back in '77. It was also the last year with flat back glass, the 75-81 models had a wrap around back window.

I remember being at Road America in Elkhart Lake WI and seeing my first new '74 Z-28 and wished my parents would buy one as I thought it was a pretty car, but what does a 11 year old boy know????

Does anybody know where one would locate the z/28 graphics for a 74 and 77 z/28.

I got my 74 Z/28 decals from Keith Marks, he might do the 77's too.
