I don't remember this kind of reaction to Janet Guthrie when she ran at Indy years ago or Sarah Fisher for that matter.

Well, I do remember Janet Guthrie getting some press for her Indy racing, however that was before the 24 news cycle and the multitude of news and sports channels, along with the Internet (you know, that place we go for our forums). Sarah Fisher came along in Indy Car when there was still some turmoil and she never had the top equipment that Danica has. I believe Sarah is still fielding a car, as an owner though. She was a pretty good Sprintcar racer, both on dirt and pavement before she moved on to Indy Car.

There has been a lot more marketing built around Danica than many of the previous female Indy car or NASCAR drivers. She has had a long association with Go Daddy and her Superbowl commercials are among the most watched. She obviously has talent, Tony Stewart is not the type to have a driver in his cars if they can't perform and while NASCAR is a business, Tony is a racer.

The fact that many of the fastest cars in qualifying last Sunday had Hendrick Motorsports engines and Chevrolet cars seem to have a little more speed, leads me to think that Danica has been fortunate to have the right car owner and team behind her and not some "help" from NASCAR. She still had to drive that car around the race track!

I think you are 100% correct.    I know when Bobby Rahal first promoted  Danica in Indy Car he saw a lot more potential in her as a racer then anything else.  I think the whole sexy image came along later when Go-Daddy took her on.   I don't think Danica has ever let this kind of image go to her head or get in the way of business on the track.  If she ever gets a big win like Daytona even Tony better look out.

When she does well, it's all about the car and the men in the garage. When she does poorly, it's because she's a moron. Have I got that about right?

I just thought this was nicely played and bore repeating.   B)

Being as I live in Wisconsin, I have to hope for only good for Danica. I of course will be rooting for the other homeboy, Matt Kenseth.

I watched Sarah Fisher kick butt years ago in a pavement sprint car race. One of the best races I have ever seen. IMHO she's a real racer. That being said, Danica has no hopes of winning Daytona. Only 10 persons in 53 (?) years have won from the pole, the most recent being Dale Jarret in 2000, in a season that was stupendous. I wish her the best, but if Sarah Fisher had the funding she would hand Danica's butt to her in a handbasket.

Nicely stated indeed, but does that not describe all of NAPCAR?

I think its cool she won the pole but after reading about her performance in past races and seeing her race in real life, I just don't think she's quite up to snuff with some of these other guys. Indy Cars and "Stock" Cars are 2 very different beings. I do wish her all the best and hope she one day proves me wrong. And I do agree, she is quite cute, except for the fact she is barely 5 foot tall. When I saw her in Michigan she was barely taller than the car! lol

Interesting article in this morning's paper about a local area woman who started a website devoted to female race drivers:

Given the response that this thread has gotten, imagine what would happen if Danica went to the NHRA? Oh my God... some people's heads would explode!

Why? The nhra has more than a couple top level (fuelers) female drivers the force girls, and Leah pruett as well.

I'm a big fan and user of GoDaddy products, but this Danica thing is all hype.

For a Brunette she is mighty dry and lacking in personality.

I would hate to see her racing in the top 5 cars because I don't think she has the ability to do anything but cause a wreck at speeds higher than her limitations.

I would not doubt one bit that this Pole Position thing is phony just to sell tickets and commercial time.

There are no sports anymore, only big businesses, too big to fail.

Slow humans are coming to the realization that all these supposed Heroes in sports are not what they poromote themselves to be.

Where are the Jim Thorpe's of today????????????????

CadillacPat

I'm quite inclined to agree.

Leah pruett is the hottest and IMO the best driver she was winning in nostalgia funnies - those are not easy things to drive! Now she's in a fueler.
