Will that be with an up top, down top or a chopped top ? 148ford1936phaeton.jpg

That's one heck of a chopped top.

Reading through this it sounds like the 3 window / roadster is an inaccurate combination anyway. Maybe they will offer a 5 window / roadster option down the road as that looks to be the better combination (both used the shorter door).

I wonder how hard it would be to kitbash this with the Revell '37 truck to make a '36 pickup? The cabs look very similar so maybe just a hood / grill swap?

Probably that will be the box art they're going to base the new "Retro Deluxe" artwork on, so they just used it as a mock-up image. Box art is usually one of the last things to get done and it'll be December before it's out, so I imagine the actual box art is still a ways away from being finished, if they've even started...

Aw, Brett!  Why do you have to go and throw water on a good rant? :D

The instructions show both the chopped top AND the roadster version. ^_^ $(KGrHqJ,!rgE-dIYuygzBPuZEsIuyw~~60_57.J

Where would you get the grill ? 1936_ford_pickup_27667695.jpg

I was thinking making it more like a pick up where the car front end was used. Don't have any pictures though.

Drag City Casting [Ed Fluck] does this grill, just got one earlier this week. It's a two piece moulding, grill is separate from the housing. The quality is 110% perfect, you wouldn't get anything better, check it out http://public.fotki....-city-casting-/

No it hasn't. My best GUESS is it will be similar to the "Tin" reissue of their Double Dragster,

all the original parts and a bunch of extras. My GUESS, no different than all the others guessing here. :o

I'll buy one of these to use with Jeff's phaeton. Thanks, Jeff!

So- let's make sure I'm reading what we're getting correctly:

1. Stock-height cabriolet, top down.

2. Chopped coupe.

3. Stock 3W coupe.

Am I on the right track? In that case, I might buy two to build a coupe as well.

We're getting a 3-window coupe with stock height and chopped top options.  The image Round2 selected for their website is temporary, and unfortunately created some confusion as it shows the roadster.

As per Round2 "The kit will not have roadster options".

Something else to note is that the 3-window and 5-window bodies are slightly different as well: the 3-window door is longer. I'll try to remember to take a picture tonight.

My favorite kind of thread, the experts all weigh in and the gnashing of the teeth begins. Ok, It's gonna be another lousy kit, don't buy it.

Kit will NOT have the roadster option because the roadster and 3-window bodies have different length doors in real life, the kit's doors are only correct for the 3w coupe.  When the kit was first released in 1963 or whenever, nobody cared.  Now people care, I guess :D .  So rather than trot out a kit that folks will complain is incorrect, they're restoring some lost parts from the earliest issues and giving it new (but retro) box art showing only the 3w coupe versions.    This new boxing will make no mention of the roadster variant.    It is a possibility that the roadster parts might still be left on the sprues, but there will be no mention of it as a building option on the box or instruction sheet.

My best guess (and I have no inside information on what the new box art will look like yet) is that they might base the new box art on one of the old side-panel illustrations from early issues of the kit, like these  -

Nah, this is a reissue of a 50+ yr old kit..it's issues have been hashed over many times over the years in many places, I'm sure..

Okay, here we have the 5-window body in beige and the 3-window/roadster body in white plastic. As you can see, the 3-window/roadster body's door goes all the way to the kick-up in the body while the 5-window's door is about 7 scale inches shorter.

Here is an overhead shot showing the bigger leather roof and different cowl line.

Even the windshield is a slightly different shape!

I received the 3-window body long ago as a built up so I have no idea which issue it is from. The 5-window body is from the 2002 reissue. Also, the most recent re-issue (2005) still has the roadster up-top.
