Looks like they're straight outta the Mazmanian/SWC/Pittman Willys to me...

Yep, they are. Front tires, too. Rear slicks are solid, fronts are hollow.

The Mazmanian 'Vette didn't have a straight axle either.  It had the stock front suspension (much the same as the '53-'54 passenger car unit).  The suspension is all attached to the front crossmember, which bolts to the frame as a unit.  The raised front end was achieved by installing spacers between the crossmember and frame; actually a couple of hardwood (yes, wood!) blocks.  The restored car still has that setup.
