Here's a quick peek at a vintage 1/25 MPC Open Road Camper box and an overall shot of it's contents. If anyone has close up shots of the individual camper-specific parts, I'd like to see what's included for the inside.

Yes, Original is MPC Annual 1969!!

Never saw it myself!

Did see th e AMT Chevy Van version though!

Wish I had bought a few then!!

I have 2 of the M-K re-issue.

I am building one on a stretched Revell 65 Chevy Pickup

I hope to be able to mount the other on an up coming Moebius Ford.

This is another one I'd like to see them re-issue. The last time, I couldn't come up with the money for it, so...

Wow!!

I got 2 of the M-K kits!

One in trade, and another off evilbay WITH a 'Heavy Pedal' pickup kit,

and only paid $30.oo for BOTH total!!!!

Never saw one in a hobby shop(Did see a 59 Imperial for $32.99 though)

I have a restorable started Wedge 71 Chevy pickup kit too!!!

Yes, I too would love to see this re-issued.

But, would they do it like the M-K Deluxe Parts Pack, or would we get each body with a pickup kit??

Either way would be GREAT!!!!

The problem with the first M-K reissue #21453P was it did not include the third axle to built the racers wedge. It also didn't include any kind of sleeve for the daul wheels for the camper. It also didn't include the snow tires. The kit had two F-60 tires.

I think the second M-K reissue #21923P included the third axle.

Yea. I have both box art/kit #

Only one had the Tandem axle for the Wedge pickup

The Dually sleeve was part of the Chevy Pickup kit not the Motor home,

so would not have been included!

That trailer axle with Polyglass GT tires, and tow hitch are NOT usable!!

One the overhang would make towing it Beyond Difficult.

The tires are TOO Small/Light duty!

Plus, Notice there is NO Frame under the Floor!!

The Pickup supplied that too!!!!!

Hopefully they do re-issue the 2 parts separately IN pickup kits!

whether the lost 72 Chevy

or the Ford 350 Just announced as Firestone Super Stones

makes no difference

Or, maybe we will get lucky and get the Dodge returned to Long wheelbase and re-issued!!

I think we need to remember that this kit was produced back in the era when kids were the primary customers! I believe that camper trailer option allowed the builder to have both a Chevy pickup and a camper trailer. Kids wouldn't notice light duty tires, lack of frames etc.  or even the drivability issues of an overhang that overhung um, nothing!

Model King just brought us a repop of what was a very expensive set of kits at the time. No more, no less! So we can't blame Dave for the shortcomings of the original kits.

And adding to the fire, I have put a scale against the interior parts of the camper and found them to be out of scale and too large. I have several of the kit and would have happily parted one out for interior parts for my camper builds. Instead, I chose to scratch build my two interiors from basswood.  And mine are absolutely to scale!

I never had an original kit.

Were the tow hitch, and trailer axle/springs, etc in that version.

I thought they had been added to the M-K re-issue.

But, True. I did not understand the engineering of actual vehicles then,

so might well have made a trailer out of one.

yeah, i have to agree with Tom, these weren't designed for todays modellers, but you make or change whatever you like, i just hope some of these make it north of the border, or get fleeced on ebay i guess.

i'm glad that someone is even MAKING an rv, there could be a good-size small market for this kind of stuff i think

I have two of these one original 69? Issue and M/k both were open when I got them. Did the M/k kit come with decals? Both my kits are lacking them. I'm also in the process of a build and searching for a suitable vehicle to use with it. I would like to see some scratch built interiors because I don't like the scale differences. I also hope they reissue this kit, so I can grab a couple more to put away.

I have on way of knowing if the Original annual 69 kit had decals,

Likely there were some but what, I don't know outside of license

plates and custom graphics for the pickup itself.

Though, I do not see any in the  opened original kit above.

I Am surprised not to see at least "Open Road" names for it!!

I do know the  M-K issues did not have any for Either body set.

The 71 Annual with the Wedge Did have decals. I have one. and the box shows

them on the  Wedge.

Check out ebay or Google Images for old Open Road camper brochures - note how the MPC unit could be modified to backdate it to the '64 version, and also how some models used single rear wheels:

http://www.ebay.com/...9bd117d&vxp=mtr

It would take some work but you could modify it into a slide-in as well.
