Ok thanks for the advice. Right now the paint has the "orange peel" texture, so should I sand it smooth, then clear coat, and after that sand/polish OR go straight to clearcoat and sand/polish after?
Sorry for all these questions, this is my first car and i want to do it right.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. So to clear a couple things up:
If I sand and polish without clear coating, should I expect a glossy finish when done sanding+polishing?
How long do I wait after applying decals to apply clear? On other websites I've read it takes 2-3 days for the decals to dry.
Edit: I have another question, should I attach the clear headlight pieces before the final clear coat or after?
Taillights, same question

There is no reason why you can't try and explore your own tips and tricks. Try it and post some pics if it works out the way you want it to.
Don't forget that this forum is a plethora of experience and knowledge. Almost all of the excellent tips provided on this topic have been provided by experienced builders with proven results.
Alright, I'll try out both ways and post pictures when I'm done

I don't have foil, unfortunately, unless you mean the aluminum foil used for cooking.
I had another idea: would painting the clear red over a yellow or pink basecoat give me the effect of a brighter tail light than if I painted over silver?

Thanks for the ideas everyone. What I'm thinking from your suggestions is to paint the taillight housing black, the 'Q' light silver, and the inside of the 'Q' darker silver, then go over both silvers with clear red, and leave the glass clear.
What I'm wondering is will putting the clear red over the silver look like a light, or will it look like a metallic red?
