How to change my thread title?

28 November 2012 - 03:48 PM

I've noticed alot of you guys are able to edit the titles of your threads. Sometimes adding the date of the last update, some times adding what you've changed. I made a recent update and wanted to all the word HELP...or something of that nature. I tried editing the first post, and changing it in my update. I'm sure I'm missing somthing! Is there a tech area for use of the forum?

Thanks,
Nate

best paint tech threads

08 November 2012 - 02:39 PM

I'm getting ready to start the paint and body work on the C5 Z06 I'm workng on. I've been reading and searching all the tech articles I can find. I was wondering if you guys could post links to your favorite suggestions for paint and body tips. As of now I plan on shooting 2-3 coats of primer, sanding with 600 grit in between while scribing out the body lines. Then blacking them out on the last coat....Its going tobe metalic blue paint so from what I read I can't sand and polish the base coat. I assume my only option will be to clear coat then cut and buff the clear.

This concerns me because I have had clear coat ruin several paint jobs in the past. Its just a pain for me because I never know how much is on there till its too much...LOL!

Thanks in advance for your time!

Body lines and window tint?

05 November 2012 - 12:52 PM

I'm building a C5 Z06 kit and I would like the body panel gaps to be nice and crisp. How do you guys normaly do yours. I have scribed mine a little deeper, but do I need to do something to make the lines darker. I was thinking about painting them black so that after paint they look deeper.

I also need to tint the windows. The only thing I can think of is to buy actual window tint. The car I'm replicating has very dark windows pretty much limo tint, but I don't want to go so chincy as to paint them. In all actualitly I only need to tint the back window and possibly a strip across the top of the front. Suggestions?

Glue Bomb....Revell 1:18 mongoose in pieces!

27 October 2012 - 12:57 PM

You guys have been inspiring me to get back in the game so I dug out the box of pieces I purchased at a garage sale for a buck last year. It was an old Revell Mongoose kit It was never completely assembled and alot of it is broken and the box is gone but it did have the instructions. I'm going to try to bring the remaining pieces back to life. I think this was a really cool kit, and I wish the body was still there! These pics were all taken last Sunday, I'll update here in a few minutes with the work done this week!

C5 Z06 corvette...First build in a long time!

27 October 2012 - 12:39 PM

This will be my first build in a long time. I'm building this as a replica of my dads 2002 Z. I'm using the Monagram 1:25 Dream Rides car. I'll need to have the 2 year only electron blue paint mixed for me at the local Car Paint store. Its been obsoleted at the dealerships. The car will be a chrismas gift, so I'd like to go a little over the top on the quality of the build. I've been learning a ton here on the board and look foreward to learning more from you guys. I doubt there will be too much custom work on this build other than some work on the hood, but I've got a few other builds in the planning stages that might be a little more entertaining.

I was also wondering if you guys have used Plasti Dip on your kits before? It leaves a really nice finish that I think might be cool for chassis and maybe interior parts?

I used the search function looking for another C5 Z06 build and didn't see any...if you have any tips I'm all ears!

I'll try to attach a couple pictures of the inspiration for this build!
