Veterans Day

11 November 2008 - 07:13 AM

I know there are many Veterans on this board, as well as those who are still in service to our great nation.

From the bottom of my heart, I say thank you. It is because of people like you that I can write this. It is because of people like you that I enjoy freedom, comfort and and the joy of family. It simply would not be possible to have these things were it not for the service and sacrifice that you have made to keep us safe and free. You are all true Heroes.

God Bless all of you. May this Veteran's Day and every other day find you healthy, happy and proud of the good work and the good people that you are.

Gratefully,
Frank Steffens

Jalopy Dragster

07 October 2008 - 03:20 PM

This is one I slapped together, the 25 T body came from the newly reissued AMT Competition Parts pack, along with the Blown Pontiac 421 engine. The chassis is from a mid 90's reissue Parts pack, along with the steelies. The front tires are from the AMT '62 Belair and I think the slicks are AMT also. Sorry for the bad pics...

USMC 55 Chevy Pro Sportsman

08 September 2008 - 12:39 PM

I got this kit from my wife for Father's day, and she was upset to find out I already had two of them...so I told her I was going to do something special with it. A couple of years ago, I saw this picture:

...and was inspired to build this in 1/72 scale:

So I printed up some custom decals, and set out to build a '55 Chevy Pro Sportsman as if it were sponsored by the Marine Corps, and used as a recruiting tool. Here's the finished pics:

Union Roll Call

01 September 2008 - 04:51 AM

Happy Labor Day to all!

So, How many of us are (or were) in Labor Unions on this board?

I'm currently a member of the Communications Workers of America Local 1104 in Nassau County, New York. I work for Verizon as a Special Services Field Technician

Before that, I was a member of CWA Local 1109 in Brooklyn, New York where I served as a Shop Steward, Chief Steward and Business Agent. I was a Field Tech (Construction and Maintenance Splicer)

How 'bout you?*

*I'd like to preemptively and respectfully request that all those who have negative opinions about this topic refrain from posting their opinion in this topic. Its just a request, not an effort to censor anyone. Though you may have a negative opinion about labor unions, there are many who are proud of their affiliation with them; it is a source of professional pride. It would be like throwing tomatoes at us during a parade...just kinda rude, ya know? Thanks in advance for your kind consideration! I know I'll catch heck for this little disclaimer, but I'd like to find out who else on the board is in a union before it degrades into a brawl.

Kidney Stones

11 August 2008 - 08:31 AM

This is my 18th (!!!) bout with 'em. Hopefully this one will pass without surgery (I've had the surgery three times already, twice on the left side, once on the right). The problem is, I have another hobby besides building models: Sweating. I sweat even if I think too hard. During the summer months, even though I drink more than a gallon of water a day, I sweat too much of it out. Genetics plays another part of it also. I get it from my father's side of the family. My dad and his brothers are all very handsome, in-shape men, with a propensity for developing stones. Of the three genetic traits listed there, I had to get the kidney stones. <_<

Folks all I can tell you to avoid these nasty little buggers is to drink LOTS of water (especially if you live in a warm climate), avoid combinations of calcium and caffeine (or limit their intake), and especially avoid powdered iced tea in large quantities.

I wouldn't wish this pain on my worst enemy. Hopefully I'll get some nice goofy pills when I go to the doctor tomorrow to help with the pain.
