I have this kit, and always wondered if the guys at AMT forgot a floor pan for the cab.

The '57 truck is the same thing.

The model looks great, but they could had included a part to hide the interior tub from the underside, so it would look more realistic.

^^ Here is a shot of the under cab structure AMT/ERTL chose not to put in the box.

I agree with the comments (and have been intending to scratch up something to cover the sides of the interior tub when I build one of the 6 or so kits in my stash), but I think the OP's model looks great considering what AMT/ERTL provided as raw materials.

In Topic: Any New Information on Revell 40 Ford?

Thanks to those that explained the grill differences between the Standard and Deluxe versions. All these years ( not saying how many) I thought the Standard grill was from a '39 ... maybe AMT instructions told me that ...

For a few years at least, Ford's new model year "Standard" had features much like if not the same as the previous year's "Deluxe" and the new Deluxe had features that set it apart from the Standard and previous model year.

The '39 Ford Deluxe grille and the '40 standard grille were pretty darn close if not the same.

In Topic: 1937 Ford woodie

16 May 2013 - 06:33 AM

Not sure if I ever asked this or not.

A friend of mine who owns a high level restoration / fabrication shop . ( think Pebble Beach quality type cars )

And he's  building an extremly high end 1937 Ford woodie, for the most part from scratch / ground up.

He knows I build model kits and asked me if a model of this car is possibile .

SO, I'm asking . I see there is a model kit of an all steel car , just haven't found a woodie kit as of yet

There have been a couple of '37 woodies in the model magazines since the launch of Revell/Monogram '37 street rod kit, and they use the front clip of the plastic kit with a scratch built woody body. I would start with the tudor sedan version. This:

combined with some styrene and work to arrive closer to this:

Came out pretty good? That is a wonderful finish- nice work.

In Topic: 1/25 AMT '40 Willys Coupe/Pickup

Stupid Question # 1 :

Is the AMT Willys drivetrain supposed to represent an Olds Rocket with a B&M Hydro-Stick Hydramatic ?

I've heard some funny stories about Hydro-Stick equipped cars from back in the early 60's . A former coworker and present friend ( he'll be turning 70 this year , and can physically run circles around guys one-third his age !) told me about one particular instance at Whirly's Drive-In from around 1964 : a high school buddy of his had a '41 Willys with a '49 Olds and B&M 'Hydro ; and , apparently , starting the car was possible in *any* gear range ---- including forward gears .

So his friend fires-off his copper-with-pearl-white-wheelwells Willys , and the car lurches-forward in a fell swoop ...

... right smack into the trunk and rear end of a customised '58 Impala ! The 'Hydro was in 1st gear when he started it  .

Around thirty (30) years ago , I saw a photo --in the other model magazine-- of a stcok , U.S. NAVY Willys pickup . No accompanying article ; just a photo .

That sounds like someone didn't install or properly connect the safety switch on the shifter mechanism that prevents the vehicle from being started only in park/neutral rather than being a function of a particular engine or transmission combo ;).
