Topics I've Started

Where I've been....

15 September 2012 - 11:15 AM

Hey guys,

Well, I think I'm ready to immerse myself in plastic dust and whittled spru once again.... :)  Man, where do I start.....
First off, I never really left the hobby......I just needed a break. Took a trip to a local Show/Expo to convince me something had to change....
I've really slackened off in the last 5 years, completing my last two fully finished builds over or around 4 years ago....
Seeing all the great builds at the Show got my creative juices flowing again, so this next 12 months I hope to get at least one big car (1/12) completed,
to put in the Show next year....That's the plan anyways......

During my recent spell (the last few months?? you can insert quite a few in there..) I haven't been totally idle.....
I came down with a disease, a bug for want of a better term.....it was confirmed as the "diecast bug"........  The good news is, I think I'm in recovery mode.
It was swift when it hit, and the feeling is slowly passing......
It secured me about a dozen models, give or take a few.....and it quenched my thirst for seeing a completed model on the bench in no time.
There were unforeseen side effects though, like the urge to MODIFY them.....................  DOH!

If you are browsing my pages @ Fotki, you may already have an idea of the trauma I have been through......
This, just a taste of how serious things got, I finally finished yesterday.
Started out as an "out of box" Biante 1/18 1977 Holden Torana A9X. Which is a pretty kool model straight up.....But, I wanted more.......

Yeah, looks pretty good, hey??
Well, as you probably well know, I hate to leave things just as "as is"...................So, the old brain went into overdrive.

I think the difference is amazing, and I am now happy to have it on display.

Give me some time to get my head back around the goings on here, I can already see there has been an unreal amount of work getting done...
Hopefully, I'll be back sharing with you all very soon.

Cheers
Greg

WIP 1/16 70.5 Camaro ProMod

13 April 2012 - 06:12 PM

Hey guys, this may be slow going at first, but hoping things hot up real quick. :)
I've only titled it as a "ProMod" so far, as I'm not sure yet whether to go full ADRL rules, or one which would compete and be legal down here..

Body is from Terry @ Flashpoint Motor Sports, slicks, rims, chutes as well, motor come from eBay (Paul Rowe)..
After studying Barts awesome build progress, I have (and will be) following a lot of his fabulous ground work. If you see a few ideas/concepts show up
that might look familiar to some of your own work, that will be because I'm drawing ideas from ALL the great builds I've seen right here @ MCM.
So much greatness within this group, it's just so inspiring to be able to follow and share.

This will most likely get interrupted once in a while by the 1/12 build......we can only hope so, :P

Ok, slow start.........Body first. As delivered.....

Initial cuts..........Man, this was tougher than I thought it'd be.

I'm onto my second draft of plans, the first were a bit skewed.....guess you get that when you download free stuff.
Blocks are glued in place to help alignment this time. Lesson learned.

Quick Q for Michael (dirtmodeller) or someone with his 1/16 drag sets

13 April 2012 - 02:25 AM

Hey guys, this post can be deleted real quick if I can gain a quick response. :)

Ok, I have some of Michael's 1/16 drag parts on their way. Engine plates, rear end plates and some Dzus tabs..oh, plus a seat.
I already have a Camaro (70.5) in the work shop with the two main chassis rails done.

Could someone please give me a measurement of the 4-link brackets.??
Top to bottom, either including the notches (for the frame) or without. I should be able to work it from there.

I know I could just wait it out......but I'd really like to get in and have the chassis to a stage where I can just "add" them when they arrive. :)
Any help would be great, and thanks in advance. :D
