AMT '34 Ford 5 window highboy coupe splash aprons

24 November 2014 - 05:01 AM

I am currently building the fenderless highboy version of this kit, using the AMT repop of the factory stock '34 that was available at Michaels about 10 years ago.

My kit has the front splash aprons (incorrect name, I dunno, but they are the pieces between the hood sides and the frame rails on a fenderless '34) that have the square cut-outs for the IFS of the street machine version.

My question is - Did the kit always have these, or does the Michaels repop have the street machine parts since it was molded after the street machine version?

If there ever were solid aprons, and you built a fendered '34 - Can you send them to me?!

Thanks. gang!

Marvin Panch's Wood Bros. '65 Galaxie

08 October 2014 - 02:47 AM

Built curbside from the Round2 Fred Lorenzen re-issue, this old kit went together very well except for having to resize the windows to get the interior to fit up inside, and a lack of positive mounting points for front and rear bumpers. I used all of the optional grand national pieces in the kit except the taillight covers - I made my own using stock bezels and sheet styrene.

Paint is Tamiya Clear Red over Tamiya Gold. Plastic Performance Parts wheels and tires. Ace Decals. (Decals don't match side to side as I wanted both versions of Panch's sponsors that season.)

Tamiya Polishing Compound questions

18 September 2014 - 03:24 AM

OK, so I have my Tamiya TS-13 clear gassing out, and it will need some polishing. I want to try the FINE and FINISH compounds by Tamiya.

Am I correct in thinking that FINE is coarser than FINISH?

Once I polish with the compounds, can I apply decals to the surface? (I'm thinking that, unlike wax, compounds are more of a mechanical polish, like a paste version of polishing cloths.)

Thanks in advance for any knowledge you can share on this!
