"Ole Borax" A Death Valley Camp Mule 57 Ford

25 April 2013 - 12:15 PM

Don't ask me why that name.  I am thinking desert rust and good names for Franken-sh-shteined camp mules.

So here we go.

Kit = Revell's 57 Ford.  Body sawed just behind the front door jamb.

Jeep wheels in te back (for the right amount of traction) and regular wheels up front.

The frame has been modified and the stake bed is completely scratch-built to give this one just the right level of attitude.

"MOGGY" BOOGIE (Doctor Cranky's 1935 Morgan) 1/16th Scale

22 April 2013 - 04:58 AM

Oh yeah, the Doctor was feeling it the minute he saw the MINI CRAFT MINIATURES kit on sale at SQUADRON HOBBIES.  The I saw the Jay Leno episode with his own MOGGY, and I was hooked.

There are several video updates over at THE CRANKY SHOW of this build in progress, but here are the completed pictures.

Not a kit for beginners, and certainly a challenge for those of you with welding skills.  I'd love to see someone make the frame for this one out of brass tubing.  That would be so cool.

It's a wonderful kit but a bit finicky at times.

Enjoy, Crankyheads!

The paint is British Racing Green by Tamiya.  Even though it looks grainy on these pictures, the paint has been buffed and shined.

Texture in a Can by Mike Levalle

15 April 2013 - 09:00 AM

Don't know how many of you have seen this, or have even tried it.  I just ordered a can that comes with the small and large nozzles.  I think for our purposes the small nozzle will work som great texture.

The Pharaoh's Patina

Working on a new build and it's name should say it all.  Got the idea from seeing a real 50 Chevy Pick up in a magazine last year.

Mr. Vertigo Rides Again

01 April 2013 - 03:26 PM

Here's another 41 Willys I just finished and had a blast working on.  Lots of the decals are CRANKY DECALS which can be mixed with the Slixx Decals for a bit of variety.

Enjoy.
