Engines for the ZZR Spy car modelled by amt

03 June 2014 - 06:59 PM

I am refurbing a gluebomb ZZR  (the only way I could afford one) The kit engines are barely detailed blobs that vaguely resemble Buick Engines. Very few pics of the car are online. Articles I have read allude to the engines being 430s. Car was built by Barris in around 1965 0r 66. It was featured in the film "Out Of Sight", which came out in 1966. Are there any kits that might have better detailed examples of those engines? Thanks. I thought they were 300 cid engines at first.

Working on an old cutom Barris kit

14 May 2014 - 06:59 PM

So I'm carefully dismantling an AMT ZZR Spy car build that I acquired a couple of years ago. Partially assembled but not painted. I had this as a kid and I was finally able to get my hands on one. They usually go for stupid money on eBay when they show up....rare kit. Old styrene is either very brittle or very flexible. I want to replace the front axle with a similar type in a newer kit. It's a typical dropped tube front axle like you would find on a T bucket hot rod. I'm also considering replacing the two lumps they call Buick nailhead engines with some from better kits. But I'm most concerned about that fragile axle. It bends too easily and I'm afraid to break it. AMT later killed this kit by re doing it as a fire truck custom.

Trip to Chicago

06 March 2014 - 07:38 PM

Always interesting going to Chicago. I had to pick up my step daughter at Midway Airport (apparently landing at Mitchell costs way more) when she returned from a birthday trip to Tampa. I'll say that I had quite the adventure driving the toll roads. Mostly uneventful but there sure was the traffic going down. Driving on Cicero Ave was like being in a demo derby or obstacle course. Trucks flying out of driveways and people just crossing the road in front of you. WOW! Going back was faster...you guys in Chicago do not obey your speed limits at all. Snow plows were plowing off the shoulders keeping up with the traffic. wasn't too bad except for the one time I was put in white out conditions when the plow near me hit a drift. At 40 mph that would not be so bad, but at 80mph it was "o ###### o ###### o ###### o ######" until I cleared it. ######!!! I think my anal orifice did not relax until I crossed back into Wisconsin.
