About Me
I'm a busy dad of three kids who loves machines of any kind. I got started modeling cars when I was eight because my dad owned a body shop and I wanted to paint cars too. I had over twenty kits built by the time I was 13 buy then I had built some model rockets as well. At that age I also discovered I was handy behind a drum set and modeling took a back seat. The next progression for me was remote control cars. As a kid who wouldn't want to see a car they built drive down the road. So that is what I did and still do today. I still built kits one a year at least through high school. All through this I kept playing music helping in my uncles body shop restoring classic cars by then my dad was out of the body business. My love of cars and things mechanical just kept on going but model making was on the back burner. The remote control car's morphed into R/C airplanes a melding of the two skills I thought. I never would've been able to build a plane with out all of those model cars I built. So many years later a wonder wife and three kids later I still do all of this stuff there all separate but related in my eyes. it works with the clutter in my head anyways

I read a lot and have learned a great deal here. I just need to put it in play. I love the old classic cars and trucks. I watched an F1 race for the first time this year and those cars fascinate me as well as the older sports cars. Anyway that is 30 + years in a tiny nutshell.

What a great thread. Very helpful indeed A few pages ago the topic of safety was brought up. If you use a respirator Here are a few tips . I am in the hazardous waste industry and here is what we do.
Your cartridges do not have an off and on button they are always working. When your done put the cartridges in a freezer bag to stop them from absorbing everything in the atmosphere. Clean it after every use. Alcohol swaps work fine. If you have a beard or mustache that is around the seal your respirator will not work right. At work we must be clean shaven. A bit extreme for a hobby but I thought you should know. If you can smell the solvents there in your bloodstream that is the bottom line. Make sure you have the correct cartridges they make different ones for different applications. Your paint supplier will have them. We use MSA brand they work good. Also check to make sure it works. Cover the cartridges with both hands and breath in you should feel the mask suck to your face. Cover the valve in the middle of the mask it should puff out as you breath out. Now your sealed and safe.
