Box Stock Hasegawa '72 Toyota Celica Road Racer

09 June 2013 - 08:42 PM

After finishing a long-term project, I wanted to build something that won't take quite so long. I always liked this era of road racers and this little Celica looked like a pretty neat kit. So I thought it would be a fun choice for a box stock build that wouldn't take too long.

But... as soon as I started on it, it became apparent that it may not be as quick as I had thought. This is likely a version of a stock Celica kit, so it turns out there is a lot of hole-filling and a few other mods needed to the body on this one.
I got started anyway...

IPMS OrangeCon 2012 Pictures

16 October 2012 - 07:28 AM

I took a few pictures at the IPMS OrangeCon Regional this past Saturday held at Cal state Fullerton in Orange County, California. Most of my pictures are cars, but there are few military and other subjects in the mix as well. It was a great show, with a ton of models present. I only ended up getting a fraction of them.

Enjoy!

Stephanie's Rose- Halibrand-equipped '41 Willys - HELP WANTED! 11-12-12

12 September 2012 - 11:47 AM

I'm limping in on this WIP with not much started yet, but trying to get ideas flowing. This is going to be a build of the Revell '41 Willys Street Rod, inspired by my little sister whose name is Stephanie Rose. She mentioned to me a while ago as she was admiring some of my other builds that she likes Willys hot rods, so I thought I would build one inspired by her, which will end up in her possession once I'm done showing it around.

Since she is the granddaughter of Ted Halibrand, I plan to accentuate the Halibrand wheels and also add a Halibrand quick change rear end and, of course, add some subtle logos to the body.

I'm thinking of going with a candy pink with some pearl ghost flames for the body paint. I picked up a flame mask from ebay all the way from Australia that I am eager to try out. Here's the mask:

Here is the center section I plan to use. It's a resin copy I made from the Monogram Pie Wagon. It's one of the best quick changes I've seen around.

I am also thinking about replacing the blower with an injection set up, as I think it will look cool to have some injector tubes sticking through the hood. I'm still trying to form my vision on this project, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'm open to hearing them.

Andretti Lola T-91 Indycar 1/32 Scale

27 August 2012 - 05:58 PM

I'm calling this one done, at least as far as posting goes. I need to make a few adjustments to the front suspension and want to add a few little details before it goes to another show, but this is how it went to last week's Lower Left Coast NNL.

Here are the specs:

1/32 scale Revell Lola T-91 with a Chevy Indy engine Snap Kit.

It is modeled after Mario Andretti's 1991 Indy ride. the kit comes with stickers for decals, so I swapped those out for Indycals 93 Newman Haas sheet, with some graphics from the Andretti scheme and some from the Mansell scheme (thanks, Michael for the help and the great products!). A few of the decals didn't fit quite right, most likely because of the dimensions of the kit, so some came from the 1/20 Tamiya Newman Hass Lola. I also made a few decals myself to account for some differences between the '91 and '93 cars, but there wasn't much. Even with that, it's not 100% accurate graphics-wise, but it's pretty close and there are very few internet  references to prove it wrong!  ;)

I also used Scale Motorsports 1/24 scale carbon fiber on the chassis pan, radiator shrouds, and cockpit. Indycals used for the tire decals. The steering wheel is highly modified, and the belt decals were home made. I replaced the drive shafts with aluminum tubing, painted with a mix of clear Tamiya acrylics. The radiator plumbing is solder with painted Tamiya tape hoses and aluminum tape clamps. The electronic box on the right side is scratch-built, modeled after actual components seen on John Andretti's 91 Pennzoil Lola. fuel lines are bead wire and Pro Tech with detail master and home-made fittings.

1/32 Andretti Lola Indy Car- Highly Detailed

05 July 2012 - 08:31 PM

I recently got started on a goofy little project a couple of weeks ago. I picked up this snap kit at the Citrus Nationals for 2 bucks last month. I had always wondered about these kits, but had never seen one in person. I was surprised when I opened it how detailed it was. So I thought it would be fun to see what I could do with it. I don't plan to go overboard, as there is a lot of stuff that could be "fixed", but I thought I would just add enough details to make it look good and go beyond its snap heritage a little.

I decided to do Mario's '91 Indy ride. There aren't a whole lot of pics, but I've been able to cobble together enough references to get it pretty close. Indycals' '93 Newman Haas graphics are pretty close to '91, so I'll only need to make a few little decals to get it to '91 Indy graphics.
