VW Aircooled Flat 4 motor detailing parts...induction

14 May 2014 - 02:49 PM

Here are the Rep and Min of Maryland 48 IDA carb bodies with the Studio 27 Velocity stacks. The resin stacks (which are actually the correct size) are also shown. I like the extra large size of the aluminum stacks. The base of the aluminum stacks fit perfectly in the hole manufactured in the resin carbs!

Rep and Min supplies the Venturi tube brass...nice touch.

The EMPI manifolds shown are from the various copies of the original 1/25 Revell 1968 Beetle/Convert.  These manifolds are for a dual port and are the tall version of the manifold. These are located on the option tree molded with Revell's version if the IDA. I have cut off the carb body, but have not yet modified these to fit the more detailed resin carb body. You can add material on each side or carefully make a cut in the middle and spread the tubes carefully to make them fit. Add plastic to fill in your cut/open space and you are good to go.

Tamiya 66 Beetle minor rebuild

13 May 2014 - 02:58 PM

Finished this awhile back but added a better exhaust (dual quiet pack) and also detailed the carbs and added a "cool lid" kit so the engine lid clears the carbs on the tall Empi manifolds. also added a wash to the cylinder barrels and block.

Some of the glass was never mounted correctly so I popped them out and used fresh BMF and white glue. The black Tamiya paint has held up well....it was sprayed over the bare plastic after only a bath to clear the mold release. Even after polishing with novus #1 it immediately attracts dust. Working up a custom Calif. black/yellow plate.

Rims are one offs replicating American wide 5 bolts I created using Americans with the smaller bolt pattern removed, then adding the wide 5 bolts from a Fujimi Porsche.

VW Type 3 Notchback

13 May 2014 - 09:00 AM

Airtrax Resin Body used as base with many modifications and details added. Chassis is from a Fujimi Porsche 911 with a Turbo engine added for motivation. Engine and chassis details are all there, you can only see from the bottom. BRM rims are my own creation. Added interior details like pull handles for getting in the back seat on the B pillars made from cut down seat belt material and sun visors and Photoetch dash and pedal details. All windows are flush fit made from 015 clear sheet. Front hood trim, "cat eye" mirror, headlights, turn signals and rear lights are scratchbuilt. Boy that was fun. PE emblems added.

Last 2 pics show the T3 Notch next to Airtrax T3 Razor Ghia.

VW Phantom Barndoor Custom Crewcab progress

13 May 2014 - 08:41 AM

Seats painted and decaled with houndstooth pattern.

Sub floor added to hide front mounting points.

Carpet is replicated from a really nice stick on fuzzy material. Easy to cut and very sticky.

Scatch built Barndoor foot bar.

Added heater and turn signal handle from Fujimi parts, plus photoetch foot pedals.

Shifter modified with longer stalk.

Re-primed body after fixing 1st paint job mess ups. Added a new body color and about to install the Safari Window photoetch Brackets. Also adding a pop in fabric headliner and some other goodies to the Barndoor dash pod.

More to come.
