Paint stripping with brake fluid

26 October 2014 - 05:15 AM

What's the most effective way to remove brake fluid from the stripped part?

What neutralizes the fluid and leaves no trace? I'm concerned about getting new paint to adhere.

Thanks for your most effective solution.

Tattoo ink-an alternative?

03 October 2014 - 08:30 AM

Any members experienced with tattoos or their application know if this can be used on styrene? I'm thinking of detail colors like rust or heat stains, not full paint jobs. A quick search taught me that they thin with water, alcohol or mineral spirits-much like our acrylics.

Ever try this material??

Epoxy thinning-Calling Ace, jwrass and...

20 September 2014 - 02:46 PM

-any other professionals or experienced epoxy users.

I use 5-minute Z-Poxy by Pacer when called for. It works well. However, many times I want to 'paint' a thin stripe or small bead in a confined area and get the usual strings or misplaced blobs. Very frustrating.

The instructions on the bottles say 'Remove excess immediately with denatured alcohol'.

My question is ; can it be thinned when mixed to get a more workable consistency? If so, denatured alcohol or some other chemical? Bond strength (if thinning effects that)  is seldom an issue in these small areas. Nor cure time if thinning effects that too. I know heat (from a heat gun) might thin it but I imagine it would 'kick' it faster than 5 minutes.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Any experienced users? What is it best used for on models?

Future clear question

07 September 2014 - 04:49 AM

From your experience, which of these is the best thinner for airbrushing Future?

A, Windex

B. Isopropyl alcohol

C. Distilled water

D. Windshield fluid

E. Another product?

The application is for use as a barrier, NOT for a gloss topcoat.
