Gas Out The Pond?

30 April 2013 - 05:35 PM

OK, I have a problem here that is bugging me to death.  I have an original Monogram square bodied S10 kit from back in the day, molded in white styrene.  I know for a fact that I did Duplicolor primer and paint.  I have tried soaking this thing for two weeks a piece in both degreaser and brake fluid.  The top layer of paint is just barely starting to bubble.

So, here's the deal.  I have kept it sealed in a container just small enough for all the parts with the lid sealed.  This is the second kit I have done this way.  The first one just melted Krylon off with degreaser.  Do I need to remove the lid on this Duplicolor painted kit and let it ventilate?

My New Favorite "Glass" Product

29 March 2013 - 03:58 PM

First off, I want to apologize for the crummy cell phone picture.  It's all I had at the time of the shot.

Anyway, I just wanted to pass on a product that I have found to work the best for me on windows and light lenses.  It is Elmer's Washable Clear School Glue.  I like this glue because it tends to go on in a more consistant fashion than the white glue of old.  It also seems to tack to the parts quicker...which was one of my biggest gripes with the white glue.  I hate when the carpet monster eats a clear part that fell off before it dried.  This product costs about $3.00 for a 5 oz bottle at Walmart.

Well, sorry about the incoherent babbling.  Just thought someone might be interested in trying it.  I will try to take pictures the next time I use it.

70 Roadrunner "Hammer"

19 March 2013 - 04:39 PM

OK, so I have seen multiple pictures of this car with and without the side stripe and "Hemi" lettering.  So, does anyone know if there were two versions or what the deal is?  Also, if anyone knows what kit may have the correct mirrors for this car, please let me know.  The ones in the Monogram 70 Roadrunner don't seem to be anything near what I need.  I may just go with something close.

Revellogram Tri-Five Warpage

11 March 2013 - 07:21 PM

OK, I have a problem that is really starting to bug me.  I have two of the Monogram "Car Show" 55 Chevys and one of the Revell "California Wheels" 56 Nomads.  Now, I'll be danged if all three of them do not "three wheel" with the front driver side up in the air.

Before I get any polite reminders that we all occassionally do stupid things like put the wrong tires or wheels on the wrong corners or something is misaligned, I have checked, double checked, and triple checked these issues.  This simply is not the case with these.  The cars all just seem to have been warped out of the box.

They all came from different stores, at different times.  And they have all been stored with the rest of my kit stash...which incidentally has no other kits with a warped chassis and stays between 65 and 75 degrees F.

So, I guess my question is, does anyone else have this problem?  Or does anyone know of tool issues for these kits?  It's really starting to get on my nerves having to warm these up and warp them back into shape.

Chezoom Chassis Swaps

12 December 2012 - 06:52 PM

Has anyone used the Chezoom chassis as a direct swap to another build?  Or does anyone know of a close or direct swap for it?  I just found my Chezoom with a ton of my old models that I built when I still lived with my parents.  The car is a little worse for wear but, the chassis is in great condition and I think I would like to reuse it.
