68 Camaro Replica

Copy of a good friends car as was about 1969-70. I modified the Revell 67 Camaro 396 SS into this 327 non-SS in Le Mans Blue with the D90 stripes. I made the Baldwin Motion hood from a combination of the kit hood and a resin copy from a 67 Corvette. Wheels and tires are resin items I cast.

67 SS 327 Nova

25 June 2015 - 09:17 AM

This is a model of my fourth car, circa 1983, in about the condition it was in when I sold it. I only had it for about 7 months. It was fast and unsafe. It was in this condition when I got it, but a bit dirtier and with a bunch of junk stuffed into the interior. I did little to it other than drive it to the brink of abuse, (not that it hadn't been treated that way before I got it), and I put the OCIR bumper sticker on it.
It was the last year for the dragstrip. I didn't run this car on it, it would never have passed tech. (I did get my Camaro into the field for The Last Drag Race though. Ran my Vega there many times too.)
I used the AMT Grumpy's Toy kit and added a few items to the model that made my car unique. This model was a blast to build and brought back many memories. It turned out to be a really quick build too; only 11 days.

Nova SS 327

16 June 2015 - 11:57 AM

This is going to be a model of my third car. It was a 325 HP 327 with a Muncie 4 speed still in original paint. But it was not a pretty or even well maintained car when I got it.

I started by painting and weathering the chassis and engine bay.

Custom Vette

09 June 2015 - 09:58 AM

This started as an MPC Street Fever Vette. A very good friend gave it to me; it was complete, unpainted and (poorly) partially assembled. It came apart with only minor damage (all repairable) to a few parts.

The opening for the grill is probably the worst damage to the body, but not a real problem. The rear panel has some glue smears, but a minor issue as well.

I decided to go curbside. After I cleaned up the body and cut out the scoop in the hood I reinforced a few spots inside the body and cemented the hood on.

Next it was just a case of trueing the body, (typical 70s tooling), scribing in the panel lines to be more uniform and sanding off molded in details like the Corvette scripts.

I plan to go with some type of metal-flake paint job. I have a few bottles of original Testors Metal Flake colors that seem appropriate.

Penske Grand Sport Roadster

08 June 2015 - 06:56 AM

Quick little Hot Wheels repaint with custom made decals. I made the wheels and soft tires from castings I did several months ago.
