This is too cool!

13 February 2013 - 01:40 PM

I start my new OTR driving career next week so I went to the local truck stop today just North of Daytona Beach, along I-95 to gather some research. Speedweeks starts up this week and along with all of the events at the Daytona International Speedway there are other events around the area, like the Dirt Track Nationals at Volusia County Speedway. So, all of the major World of Outlaws sprint car teams are filtering into the area for their events.

When I looked over in the truck stop area, where most trucks were parked I saw the coolest rig that I have seen in years. It is what appears to be a custom Peterbilt ramp truck carrying a Donny Schatz/Tony Stewart Racing sprint car show car. I snapped these pictures with my smart phone and the driver, who was sitting inside the rig, was kind enough to get out and come over to me to tell me about the truck.

This is now one of my future model build ideas as this was just way too cool to not want to have something like this sitting on the shelf.

Jaxcon 2013 show pics.

03 February 2013 - 08:15 AM

Here is the link to my Fotki album of pictures from yesterdays IPMS contest held in Jacksonville, FL. Another great show put on by the IPMS First Coast group. Almost 550 models on the tables, over 60 vendor tables filled with great buys and some of the best competition in the Southeast. Almost 200 automotive models on the tables, which is pretty significant for an IPMS contest.

January 2013 FAST Meeting pics.

06 January 2013 - 01:11 PM

Here is a link to the pics. from yesterdays FAST meeting in Ocala, FL. Another meeting with great attendance and great looking builds. 50 Olds kits were available for club members to pick up for the next club build. Fattkid had a great looking painted Nomad body that had to be seen in person to really appreciate it. And it was even better outside after the meeting in the sunshine. I convinced Stan to bring some of his older builds including the old Pink Panther show car kit. He did an excellent job at building this difficult kit years ago. A great time was had by all.

Pro Street Community Build Project

29 December 2012 - 02:37 PM

O.K., so I started another thread to see if there would be any interest in this cbp. After reading some posts from another thread on cbp's I read some very good points mentioned from other builders and decided that, because I have a few upcoming build ideas for some Pro Street subjects (one to start now), that I would simply fire this CBP up with the idea to get anyone interested in joining in as they see fit.

The idea is to start it as of Jan. 1st 2013, with no finish date. If you are interested, join in as time permits, with as many builds as you choose. The ultimate goal is to see how many completed builds can be generated by the end of the year, even though there is no formal end date. At any given time, with enough completed builds available, I will activate a poll for people to vote for their favorite build, and provide some assorted resin parts as prize for the top vote getter. If we have enough participation, and completed builds, I could do this multiple times throughout the CBP.

The criteria. Your build must be a Pro Street subject, in the truest sense. Tubbed rear chassis/suspension, wide rear treaded tires, etc.. Any car/truck that you can think of to be given the Pro Street treatment is acceptable. Any powerplant. Any scale. No previously completed builds will be accepted for voting. If you wish to participate by showing any prior Pro Street builds that would be great. But for the sake of this cbp, and being eligible for voting, your build must either be a newly started build or no more than 25% previously completed. Please show your starting points and any progress along the way.

Thanks, and happy building.

Is Pro Street dead?

29 December 2012 - 07:27 AM

I would like to submit the idea of a Pro Street CBP but only if there is enough interest to support it. The CBP would simply be for a select amount of time to build any project, car or truck, that fits the mold of a Pro Street, street legal style vehicle. Any available idea would be allowed with any manner of powerplant, tubbed chassis and treaded wide rear tires.
I will leave this thread opened for a short time to see if there are enough builders here that would like to take part. If so then I will open up a new thread for the actual build. I have a few ideas myself and I know that there are still quite a few available sources for Pro Street cars and trucks. Let me know what you think.
