AMT '32 Ford Roadster, '39 Wagon Rod, & '34 Ford

11 August 2012 - 06:50 AM

Went to a local car show/swap meet this morning and picked up a few kits. I was hoping some of you could give me some background on two of them. I got all three kits for 25 bucks!

The first kit is an old AMT 32 Ford Roadster 25th Anniversary Kit # A132-225. Anyone know anything about this kit? How old it is, how it builds up, how rare? The box is open but all the parts trees are still sealed in plastic and its complete.

The second kit is a newer AMT/Ertl. It's the 39 Wagon Rod, a two door wagon street rod. I've never seen this one before. Anyone know anything about it? I'm guessing it wasn't made very long. It is still sealed in the box.

The last kit is an AMT/Ertl 34 Ford Nostalgic Series 2 n1 Kit. I know this is a newer kit, this one was still sealed in the box.

So, what do you guys think? Decent find for 25 bucks? Do these kits build up well? Any insight is appreciated.

Primer for Laquer Paints

06 July 2012 - 12:20 AM

I'm about to start building a Monogram Black Widow pickup. I decided on painting the body with Testor's One Coat Laquer Inca Gold. The body tub and fenders of this kit are molded in black plastic. What would be a suitable primer to lay down first that won't react with the laquer? Would any of the regular spray primers work? IE: Duplicolor, Brite Touch, etc? Or is a hobby primer better?

Metallic Paint Job

29 June 2012 - 10:54 AM

So I'm working on a new model. It's AMT's 62 Pontiac Catalina kit. I'm building it as the Arnie Beswick drag version. Anyway, I thought I'd try my hand at a metallic paint job. I wet sanded the body with 1,000 up to 6,000 grit. I then laid down a coat of Testors Metallic Silver Enamel as a base. My question is can I wet sand between color coats? I got a small piece of lint in the base coat. Once it dries can I wetsand the body and then proceed to shot the color coat? The color coat will be Testors Custom Blue Metal-Flake Enamel. Can I wetsand that coat and then Clear Coat the body? Or should I Clear Coat and then wetsand? I'm never used metallic paints and I don't want to mess this up. The silver base went on gorgeous besides the small piece of lint that landed in it while drying. One other question. After I apply the BMF and decals, can I clear coat over that? Or will the clear mess up the BMF ? Thanks everyone for reading my post. Any input would be appreciated.

Stripping Testors Enamel

25 May 2012 - 12:18 PM

I know this question has been asked a million times, but here goes...... I have a frame I painted with Testor's Gloss Black Enamel out of the rattle can and I'm not happy with the results. What is the best way to strip it without damaging the part? Is Simple Green effective?

First Truck Build- Italeri Kit

21 May 2012 - 01:04 PM

This is my first completed truck build. It's an Italeri kit of a DAF 95 XF Super Space Cab truck. I must say the Italeri kits go together quite well. The model was airbrushed with decanted Testors Enamel "Competition Orange" and the wheels were done in Alclad Polished Aluminum. It was built box stock. Sorry for the bad pics. Let me know what you guys think. And by the way, I picked up this kit from the lfs on clearance for 20 bucks.
