  1. Very nice! I'm happy Atlantis is reissuing some of the hard to find Revell and Aurora kits.
  2. Nice build! I've got an original issue with the electric motor drive. If I find another parts kit I'd be interested in building it utilizing the Atlantis reissue.
  3. I wonder if Heller still owns the tooling or did it disappear with their F-1 kits and all those IMC kits into Japan and Union Models back in the 80's.
  4. Nice job making a silk purse from sows ear. I too bought one when Iit came out and I've never opened it since. I think Revell made a good effort with their F&F and tuner cars but this kit, the 350Z and Supra seemed like they were designed by cartoonists. Again great job!
  5. Actually the move back east was due to the high cost of doing business in the People's Republic of California. By their own admission on the HAMB back in 2019 in believe they indicated they were struggling. First they pushed the lifetime subscription fiasco, then stopped retail sales and went back to a subscription only business model. That's when I ponied up for a 2 year subscription, also ordered a number of books and other swag. Never saw a thing, this was well before Covid and after a few months of calling and emails the contact info was dropped from any web presence and the phones shut down. Call it what you will but when you take money and don't send product and refuse to even respond to customer concerns, that's basically thievery. I love the magazine and treasure my collection but as far as I'm concerned I hope they get what's coming to them. Done with excuses and those who tell everyone to suck it because they had issues (especially a bunch of fools on the HAMB), just drop it and hopefully you'll have the opportunity to throw more $ at them or down the toilet, same difference. I've had issues with small purchases from various vendors over the years and always have had them resolved. The time I spend over $500 I get bent over, thanks TRJ.
  6. Had I not been involved with my friends store I'd never have known about the Aero train or the Hiawatha sets. I was able to get them at cost and wouldn't have bought the additional rolling stock beyond the engines and a couple of cars that came with the sets. My dad had a mild interest in H.O. from back in the 60's and had a small layout next to the slot track. He was mostly a modeler, primarily cars but he liked aircraft and some sci-fi. I'm still planning on fitting my old Varney shells on a modern engine and chassis. I still like the look of the old Varney shells as well.
  7. I started with buying the crude Varney versions of the Aero Train since it was the only game until ConCor came out with their high detail modern tooled train. A bit on the pricey side but well worth it. Based on what I've seen over the years with guys and their hobbies (I've seen some funny and some terrible things) I'm very very blessed to have the wife I do.
  8. Not much of a train guy but I've seen his work in various print forms and the interwebs years ago when I put some time in helping with managing my friends hobby shop for a while. Spectacular to say the least. Hopefully once I get my slot car tracks finished, building a convertible table/base that will have an H.O. track folding or lowering down to top the 1:32/24 scale track. I'd like to build a small H.O. train layout for the few trains I have. I have my late father's various engines and rolling stock in addition I've got got a Walther's Hiawatha set plus a ConCor GM Aero train and a few cars. I work in the sign industry and am also designing and making a display case with track to display in the living room with my framed period Hiawatha and Aero Train posters. We do some PoP display stuff and always have lots of clear acrylic around. My wife thought it would be a great display. She's really good about my many hobbies and interests, I think that's why I've kept her around all these years?
  9. Given the choice between the '61 Starliner or the '67 Galaxie I'd rather have the '67. That's only because I've got more than enough Starliners, and only one '67. Regardless if either one of these would be cloned I'd be happy.
  10. I know from Steve G's previous posts that updating Mueller era kits was challenging but a '61 Starliner based on the '60 would be most welcome. The '60 is nice but I've always liked the design of the '61 much better.
  11. Nice!! ??
  12. Would be nice to see the Tempest reissued again. Unless I missed something I don't think it has been out since the early 2000's Model King release.
  13. Very cool! Really like box art builds of vintage kits
  14. Excellent build! I know it's not the most accurate, missing major details, etc... but I also collect redline Hot Wheels so I have a soft spot for this kit. Where did you source the decals?
  15. Despite the unfortunate passing of Mr Ganahl I still don't believe TRJ has their stuff in order or have any intention of filling previously paid for orders or subscriptions. I paid for a subscription, books and some other items almost 6 months before the problems. Due my high hopes for the publication making good I unfortunately waited too long to open a dispute with my CC and am out money with no explanation or effort to make things right. I have every issue up to 82 and am not expecting to have issues moving forward. I forwarded the issues to our States Attorney General as a mail fraud issue and learned from other people from local car clubs who are in the same situation. It seems those "good folks" at TRJ screwed them as well. If you've received your issues to present, good for you. As far as I'm concerned they're crooks and will not get any more of my hard earned money regardless if they keep going. I also don't want to hear any excuses pointing to the pandemic being the root cause since everything else I've ordered before and during have been received from numerous companies. If you can take money you'd darn well better make good on it.
  16. They were re-released by Doyusha except for the Sand Dragon. Doyusha may have been the company that originally ran those for Eldon as all of my original kits say made in Japan.
  17. Galaxie had Monogram do a run of the Sizzler and Long John dragsters but never owned the tooling. After Gary Schmidt passed a few years ago everything was eventually sold including the tooling. Pegasus/Mobeus now owns the molds and any remaining inventory of previously run kits.
  18. The Sidewinder isn't bad but I think the Toad is much cooler. I'd guess Atlantis probably wouldn't reverse the changes unfortunately. There's a number of TD kits that were changed for the worse, Rat Vega, Poison Pinto, Sand Shark (formally the Dog Catcher) to name a few.
  19. I use a compound side cutter, they make quick work for most steel axles. The one shown is from Harbor Freight. It's not that nice but I'm using the image as it gives a better visual of the function and design. There's a variety of designs that work the same way. You should be able to find better quality cutters at any hardware store or online. Generally you get what you pay for with these tools. I have a couple of different sizes for cutting various diameters and materials. The one I use most I purchased through work from Grainger but don't remember the manufacturer, it's not a common tool brand and it's worn to the point I can't read it any longer other than made in the U. S.
  20. Nice score, however those are Revell kits and are 1:8 scale and not 1:12. The Drag bike is particularly hard to find as well.
  21. Nice, who is the manufacturer of your hollow body?
  22. Yup, that's the one, unfortunately mine is very incomplete and the body while restorable is rough as well. My MPC version while not perfect is nice enough that I wouldn't consider sacrificing it to making a mold as much as I'd like to do a static version.
  23. The body was typical for slot cars starting in the mid 60's to the present in that it's butyrate and later lexan plastic. In this case it was blow molded into a cavity instead of vacuum formed. The reason in this case was so the complex shape of the body could be reproduced better. The only styrene parts are the motor and bubble. There's a Japanese version (name escapes me even though I have it) seems a little better in some proportions but is off in the motor and cockpit offset. I think this car would be a great candidate for some of our talented 3d guys to tackle.
  24. Very cool, I've always liked the styline parts in this kit and hopefully some day I'll build one of mine using them. I already used the sedan delivery parts from one of my kits to build a master for a resin caster. Your build looks great and has that period look I like.
  25. As a builder of Sci-Fi kits as well as cars I can say there's an amazing amount of kit specific aftermarket detailing kits, printed parts, lighting kits as well as very high quality decal sets available as well, so yes we have it pretty good.
