MCM Ohana

MCM Ohana (6/6)

  1. I am reminded of Austin Powers, I can hear him in my head now.... "oh beeee haaaave". πŸ˜„
  2. When I was a mere child, I was in possession of a scrapbook full of tobacco stamps my grandfather, who had been a butcher/ store owner back in the '20s, '30s, and '40s had saved (for me) and, after he was gone, I had no idea what they were. There were also many foreign postage stamps and such but I was not interested in them. I wish I had kept track of them. Stupid kid. πŸ’©. Yes, I was a stupid kid. I admit it. πŸ₯Ί perhaps I still am .
  3. I'm thinking maybe getting away from the "nose" location and locating the magnets at the rear corners rather than removing the lip, but it's just a guess. It may allow easier access for locating them from below. Sometimes it's just not easy 😞. I just looked at mine to refresh my memory. I have a single location at the nose and I see I had to shim the hood magnet on an angle to get it to lay down. Individual results may vary πŸ₯΄ anyway, I'm gonna need an explanation about the "mailbox" πŸ€”.....oh, OK, I get it 😏.
  4. Hey, Len, stamp collecting is pretty easy. All you need is money and a magnifying glass. Just change the angle of the magnets. Tape the hood down tight. It's tricky but you know what to do, and maybe the baby hemi is just growing up πŸ™‚ Go watch a movie.
  5. Yeah, Jeff, you're running out of glue 😏.
  6. I know exactly what you're talking about, David. I recall having to narrow a dash (but I can't tell you on what πŸ€”). The next kit I start is going to get a lot of "tape assembly" before any paint. Gotta do the fixes before any paint. No surprises next time.....yeah, right πŸ₯΄.
  7. Yeah, I thought about that and knocked out the side glass but that wasn't it, Dave. The dash is tight up against the bottom of the windshield (this is after removing the remains of the locating pins and grinding the bottom corners of the glass away) and it looks fine but still there's a gap so I filled it with an .040 strip. Good enough. My big concern was the huge gap between the hood trim and the grille. I couldn't let that go without a fix. It seems there are always surprises when I get to this point on every build, regardless of looking for just this sort of thing ahead of time. Stamp collecting would have been a lot easier πŸ€“.
  8. Greg, I have used lacquer thinner to thin Testor enamels for spraying, successfully, and also for thinning out thickened-up enamel, in desperation, for brushing. What happens to the paint after that is hit or miss. This may not be pertinent to this discussion but I have recently experienced an issue with the lacquer thinner I got at Lowes recently. I use it for cleaning brushes and noticed it was acting "strange". Then I used it for thinning MM enamel for spraying last week and I noticed the solids in the paint were separating out and congealing and settling to the bottom of the jar. I stopped using it for anything immediately.
  9. Thanks, Rick, I still have a bit more to do. She's gittin' there.
  10. Oh I admire a woman that lights up a room like that. You're a lucky guy!
  11. Mine came from Cedarhurst. The only fowl language from her is aimed at me πŸ₯΄.
  12. Oh she's a beauty, Dave. And yeah, when the Garage Guy speaks, people listen 😢. I do. I'm happy to hear of your BMF experience; I ordered up two of the 001s from them on your say-so. Can't wait to take it for a spin. They had some problems with their vendors, as I recall, some time ago and the "Ultra Bright" was not for anyone with patience like mine πŸ₯΄.
  13. That's a fact. Tonight I found the complete 427 from the '66 Fairlane on ebay. I'll use that in the Galaxie and swap the chassis', giving me a screwbottom Starliner with a nice 406. πŸ‘Œ
  14. Ok....just when you think it's all going great, the AMT curse kicks in and things turn to πŸ’©. Despite everything I did to ensure that the windshield/dash relationship was friendly, the firewall would not get any closer to contacting the underside of the cowl than about two mms. I did everything I could think of but still the gap remained. What to do, what to do....fill the gap! Next, the chrome trim on the hood would not line up with the corresponding trim on the fenders and the gap between the top of the grille and the hood trim was horrific. The hood was resting too high. My solution: shave the underside of the hood where it contacts the fenders and shaving the top of the radiator support. You can't know this stuff until you get to this point in assembly. I'm just glad that Wifey wasn't home when all this was unfolding πŸ₯΄. She doesn't approve of my fowl language. 😏 So, anyway, here's a few pix with the foil on.
