Canadian 1961 Pontiac Laurentian conversion
tomsheehy replied to TheBEAUMONTGURU's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Once again, a spectacular build. Thank you for sharing. -
This one's in the books... 1978 Chevy Nova/Phoenix, AZ PD replica. Used the Greg Wann resin sedan conversion trans-kit with the MPC Squad Rod/Nova kit. The resin parts were very well done and required only a little bit of clean up, but the old MPC Nova parts were horrible to work with. I would recommend to anyone who wants to do this conversion to use the newer tool Revell 68-70 Nova kits, it'll be worth the extra effort. Paint is Tamiya, decals by Scale PD. I tried the new Revell chrome spray for the hubcaps and the grille, came out pretty good. Light bar is a fantastic TwinSonic by Dave Parsley Custom Scale Emergency Lights.

Quite impressive Mr. Rowley. I'll be following along. -
Just started this conversion project, building a 68 Satellite out of the AMT 68 Roadrunner kit. I'm using a Shapeways 3D trunk/taillight printed unit to replace the rear of the Roadrunner. Initial cuts were required for the swap were fairly easy, mostly using the back side of an X-Acto blade. The fit is pretty good so far, it's going to require a bit more trimming and shaping, but should yield a nice alternative. Other mods will include stock 68 hubcaps from Fireball, a resin 3D small block 318 from VCG Resins, and a resin interior from Missing Link. Here's the link to the taillight parts: https://www.shapeways.com/product/3UHFXGKJ9/1-25-1968-plymouth-satellite-rearend?optionId=299285487&li=marketplace

Decals were sourced from Scale PD https://scalepd.com/ As to the color break, I have a bunch of images from mid-70s PPD cars showing the all tan with white roofs. In the 60s, the images I have show the tan only on the sides, like you mention. The photo I posted above sure looks like the hood it all tan. Here's a bun of 75/76s put out to pasture, and a 74 in service

Working on this Greg Wann resin Nova 4dr sedan trans-kit, being built as a replica Phoenix AZ police unit. Its being mated to the old MPC Nova Squad Rod kit. The resin parts are very well done and should yield a nice finished project. The old MPC kit lacks a lot of detail. I should have tried using one of the current Revell Nova kits and modified as needed, but too late now. Paint is Tamiya sand and white, now awaiting clear coat. Photo of actual unit is from a Phoenix PD page.

Built from the Revell new issue with some mods...resin parts from Fab Resinworks (flat hood, bench seat, hidden headlight grill) and a 3D resin 350 engine from VCG Resins. Paint is Duplicolor GM red.

Very nice build, great paint and finish. Too bad AMT rolled this one out with incorrect Las Vegas decals. The AMT set is correct for 1974 and newer. In 1970, they were not yet the "Metropolitan" LVMPD. Here is the correct door emblem for the 60s up to 1973

Yes John, NNL East is a go for me, but this Coronet will be residing on the West Coast by then with its full size cousin.

Still going strong Steve...hope to run into you soon...April in NJ maybe???

1966 Dodge Coronet, replica of a restored Pasadena CA Police squad, built from a MCW Automotive Finishes Resin 66 Coronet 2 door sedan trans-kit mated to a Revell 67 Coronet R/T kit for chassis and other donor parts. Body and interior converted to 4 door sedan. Engine is a small block Mopar 318 from my parts department, as requested by the owner of the real car. Pasadena used a rather unique roof light platter on their squads of this era, I duplicated it with some sheet plastic, parts box spotlights and a modified JoHan police kit siren modified to look like a B&M mechanical siren. Interior detailed as per the prototype, including a 'hot sheet' desk and a 3D Motorola radio by Duncan Nordese. Paint is all Tamiya, decals were homemade. Last couple of shots were taken alongside my LAPD 68 Belvedere, built a long time ago...

1985 Chevy Blazer, Arizona Highway Patrol replica. This project started with a full resin kit from an eBay seller, that only need a few donor parts from the AMT GMC pickup kit of the same vintage. The kit looked pretty good online, but was very disappointing when I got it. I started it anyway, and found it to be pretty much unbuildable as is. The chassis was not workable and the body was not a good fit with any of the AMT donor parts. So on to plan B... I kept the resin rear quarters cut from the body, the interior and the rear roof section, and went to work on the AMT kit. I chopped the back off the plastic cab and mated it to the resin rear quarters. I assembled the AMT chassis and shortened it by the needed wheelbase difference. But even then, this one fought me every step of the way. The roof was very 'awkward' and was real tough to get a good fit. The kit taillights did not fit the body correctly, and they still don't because there was not much I could do at this point to fix it. On the plus side, I discovered an aftermarket seller who produces the correct Chevy truck grilles for the 1980s, he has an 81/82, an 83/84 and an 85-87. The company is Z Force Modelworx. They are nicely done. He has informed me that he is working on the correct bumpers (without the turn signals in them) so I'll change that over when they're available. The wheels and caps are from Scenes Unlimited, tires are AMT from their old Tahoe kit. Decals are Chimneyville. The light bar is an old recycled Yodel kit part with rear flashers and a 3-D printed Federal Signal speaker. I added a bodyside molding using chrome mylar tape with black crepe tape layered over the chrome.

That's a Caprice grille, the Impala/Bel Air grille was considerably different.
