  1. Amazing work guys, apologies for being "off the grid" the last few months, unfortunately I am pulling out of this years Cannonball due to circumstances beyond my control.....although the WRC Corolla is 95% complete, that's where it shall remain indefinitely....

    It's a long story......maybe some other time

Good luck to all the entries....

    Regards

    Ray.

Man that sucks, it was so close too. Looking at your post in June I think we could all agree it looked finished. As long as there's no nays I'd let it slide at put you in for voting with that picture, if you would like.

As for mine setting the A-arms is slowing me down so every single domino will need to fall perfectly in place for me to get it done in time.

  2. Nice work indeed!

Rear A-Arms are assembled and should be ready for installation. Also started working on the springs. Should have enough room to put two on each side for endurance.

Now for the springs. I guess these would fall into the "general spring category" not necessarily the best looking but they get the job done, for me at least.  On the left is all the components needed for now.

    Top to bottom

    1. top ring
    2. top cylinder
    3. center rod
    4. bottom cylinder (spring guide)
    5. bottom cap
    6. some wire
    7. x2 two short (in similar diameter to the center rod peices) These go on the top and bottom of the spring for the mounts. (Forgot to make them)

     photo DSC00485_zps8jyzlotv.jpg

For this setup (non functioning) The center rod is full length to what I want the spring to be. The tops of the top and bottom cylinders match the ends of the center rod.

Here pieces 2 through 6 have been glued together. Piece number 1 should not be installed until after painting is done and the spring has been added. For the sake of not losing it really doesn't even need to be made right yet.

Also if you would like to add the beveled edges to the cylinder ends do so before you cut them. Trust me it's a lot easier. :D

Now for the fun part, whinding the springs. For this take a decent length of the same diameter tubing as the cylinders. I didn't do it on this one but wrap a layer or two of tape around the tube to increase the size of the coil a little. It'll make it easier to slip on and hopefully prevent scratching any paint.

Take your time and slowly wrap it around trying to leave as little gap between the loops. Doing so will make it a lot more easier to make even when stretched out to final length. Cut to cut this spring he was 11 loops.

After its wound stretch it out to length, this really should be done after it's been clipped but before hand wont harm anything either.

    Mock up of end result.

    Hope something here helps.

  3. If enough people are for it then we'll do a 15 day extension. But I being one of the guilty (guiltiest even haha), personally think it should be kept to the  Dec. 1st, D-date. I've had 11 months to work on mine and haven't, life has kept me away from the bench sure but that's the nature of it, if I don't make it because of that then that's on me and is something I can accept.

But again if we get more yays then nays from the builders we'll do it.

Jesse, if all goes well I should be making shocks and springs for the rear end of mine tonight. If I can remember I'll take some photos of what I do to make mine.

  4. Like your body modifications Jonathan. If it weren't running thru the Outback, it would look deadly lower to the ground. Are you sure about switching to RWD? Looking forward to your build!

    Cheers & G'Day, Misha

Yes unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to go awd with it. It's still not 100% ruled out it's just in all my mock ups no mater what I do I can't seem to find enough space in the front for the diff to sit. (frame vs engine vs height issues). I'm working on the rear end right now, I'll know for certain when I get to the front end hopefully Sat or Sunday. If I really cant do awd and it ends up hurting me in the votes then I will humbly accept it, I'm in it for the fun more so anyway.

  5. Due to the look and design I'm going with it's become painfully apparent that 4x4 isn't going to work out. So I'm just going to keep it rwd, beef up the frame, suspension and scratching some independent rear suspension as well. Might a little to late in the game for it but I'm going to try anyway.

Nice! Due to the look and design I'm go69 crnt 2 photo DSC00461_zpsdmlq8uwk.jpg

    69 crnt 1 photo DSC00460_zpsmhdsa3tq.jpg

Current color scheme, not sure I like it so I'll likely just go full satin black.

Also got the new tires in. Though they look small to the Jeep's tires I think they'll work out very nicely for the Coronet.

  7. Alright folks the completed builds thread is live. Here

Please post your completed builds there. While I will try to keep diligent track of who finishes if you don't post yours there I can't 100% guarantee I wont miss it when assembling the poll thread so please make sure you get them posted. Thanks

Looking foward to seeing what you guys have made. :)

Body work is done on mine, color not so much. Ordered some different tires last week and I'm waiting on them before I start on frame work. Gonna be down to the wire with mine this year.

  8. Here's the place for all of our intrepid cannonballers to post their completed builds for this year's cbp.

This year we chose a Off-Road theme held in the land from down under, beautiful Australia. Builds this year are loosely restricted to Australian road laws, no make or model restrictions, really just needing to be capable of both on and off road travel.

So without further ado, lets get our completed builds photographed and posted here. Remember guys, the folks on the forum will vote based on how well you represent your model, so find a way to take some decent photos. A piece of non-shiny poster board as a back drop, some decent lighting and something to steady the camera will do wonders.

I would like to quickly cover a couple of ground rules here. One is this thread is only intended for the folks who have entered the cbp here: 2016 Cannonball (Aussieball) Builld Thread

Any randoms will be removed or not counted period.

To anyone who would like to leave any ataboys and good jobs please leave them in the above mentioned build thread or in the individual Under Glass threads I'm sure will be posted in the coming days.

This thread here is for the builders to post their finished models only.

And lastly while I will try to keep diligent track of who finishes their build I would like to say if you don't get your entry posted here I cannot guarantee I wont miss yours when making the poll thread, so please make sure you get your entry posted here.

    Thank you

  9. I like the concept, just how high are you going with this ?

Thanks! It'll likely be around the same height as in the last picture. I'm going for good ground clearance but not high enough to be a roll hazard.

You are off to a good start. Are you planning on mount that modern hemi engine you have on the bench in this one?

Thanks! I'm considering it but the engine is a 1/25 and the Coronet is a 1/24 so I looks small in the bay but we'll see.

Thanks Joe, Carl, Richard and Dennis!

I found a fellow that molds tires on eBay and gives measurements of them. I found a set that's a little smaller than the Jeep's tires so I bought them, I'm thinking they'll look a little better for the build.

Anyway got the body work done and primer on it. Might paint the hood and front fenders black as homage to the '68 Dart Super Stock.

The rear fenders where widened out about as far as the front fenders were pulled out but it's kinda hard to spot.

  10. WIP of my entry for this years Cannonball (Aussieball) cbp. Hopefully this is in the right category it's a car but it'll be getting mild 4X4 treatment, if it belongs in the Truck section by all means move it. :)

Anyway like I said it'll be getting mild 4X4 treatment along the lines of the Off road Charger from Furious 7. So the front fenders will be cut and widened a little and the rear fenders will be wide bodied out a little too. Color hasn't been decided on yet, likely flat with some amount of weathering, not going to be show quality in the least.

    14876403_985080871637775_341612557997277

First time cutting fenders completely off, glad it ended well.

    14753728_985080944971101_154891666679234

And I though I had gotten a couple of pics of the work on the rear fenders but I guess not.

Will have a few pics of it with primer up later today.

    Thanks for looking!
