  1. Thank you, Eric ! Thank you, Gary - I think it was worth it.
  2. Excellent guild, John - very nice color and chrome trim !
  3. Very nice build, Anders - as we are used to see from you. The cream color fits surprisingly well, as does the lowered body.
  4. Thanks, Rich - the narrow white stripe across the engine cover is a decal, the rest had to be masked. Thank you, Larry! Thanks, Chris! Thanks Tony - it is a bit work, but not too much!
  5. Very nice replica of Wilbur Shaw's 1939 Indy winner, David!
  6. 2 years ago, I took a chance to buy 5 built kits for a total amount of € 18,00 (about $ 21) including postage – it was a STEAL ! ( They were advertised on an Austrian website where you can sell – without any fees – things you don’t need any more, either new or used - I have sold a lot of my kits and built-ups there). They were 5 red cars (obviously air-brushed and nicely detailed, but some parts missing) : · ESCi Lancia Beta Montecarlo Gr. 5 (drivers: Walter Röhrl/Ricardo Patrese) from 1980 – decals yellowed, some parts loose, but complete : this was what I wanted (very expensive today, if you ever find one) · Fujimi EM Dino 246 GT – wanted for its drivetrain (robbed for a commission build) and wheels: this one I also wanted to have! · The other 3 are missing a few parts and were intended to give up their wheels: Fujimi EM Ferrari 288 GTO, Fujimi EM Ferrari 365 GTS/4 and Hasegawa Ferrari 328 GTS. On closer inspection I discovered that the 365 GTS (Daytona Spider) was too nice a model to be cannibalized: it had some parts come loose (front bumpers, grill, left rear wheel), some parts were missing (wipers, outside rear view mirror, one exhaust tip, front lights, license plates), the windshield was a bit scratched and dirty, its frame broken – but the builder /seller whose name I do not remember anymore had put much effort into detailing the engine bay: wiring, plumbing – I never could have done this (I’ve got no nerves for such delicate work)! So I decided to save this one though I would not have painted it in the ever-present red – I repaired the windshield frame, polished the glass, re-glued the loose parts and cannibalized an old Italeri Daytona for mirror, windshield wipers and all 4 exhaust tips which are a little bit thicker than Fujimi’s. As a final touch, I applied a piece of chrome foil onto the inside mirror, a prancing horse in the center of the steering wheel and some Bologna license plates front and rear from an old Protar Alfa Romeo kit. Unfortunately, the hood is a bit warped (but I didn’t want to ruin the model when trying to straighten this out), so I just let it as it is. The headlights are still missing, but you will only notice that when you take a look closely up front, as they would be mostly hidden by the front bumpers anyway. It was a rewarding job to save this one – and I still have 4 other Fujimi Daytonas EM left in my stash (2 spiders, 1 coupé and the Pininfarina Berlinetta speciale) ! I would say - a few hours of fun, and a real steal : about 4 $ for 1 model!
  7. Hi, Patrick - here are some of the kits (on checking the rating of the seller from last week, I found some of the Hubleys...) Here we go: sold for € 13,83 (about 16 $) - kit mint, unbuilt, box - well, you can see it: sold for € 18,27 (about 21 $) mint, unbuilt: sold for € 32,60 (about 38 $) - painted, decals applied, partially assembled: sold for € 38,50 (about $ 44) - mint, unbuilt: sold for € 46,50 (about $ 54) - almost mint, unbuilt: sold for € 42,50 (about $ 49) - mint, unbuilt: and finally: sold for € 59,00 (about $ 68): kit mint, box slightly worn : These are the kits that I could find yet !
  8. Great model, Mark - hard to believe that you started with amt's Sting Ray !
  9. Great resurrection, Snake - hard to believe when you see the original wreck in the first picture.
  10. Thanks, Patrick - those Humbrol color back in the day were well-suited for brush painting: I brushed them directly onto the colored plastic and you could hardly see any streaks. But as I have learned from some other modelers here they seem to have modified their formula so the paints are no more what they used to be (I still have a few tinlets from the '80s and 90s that are not dried out yet).
  11. When the factory cars DNF in 1984, the private teams took the laurels for Porsche: Tamiya's kit built out-of-the-box in 1987 or 88. Don't ask me why, but the engine cover wouldn't sit right where it should (my fault, maybe) - otherwise: a typical Tamiya kit:
  12. Very nice model, Gareth - looks perfect!
  13. Thanks Carl - I did not expect to get that many comments for this model - is probably due to the fact you don't see it often. Thank you, Michal! Danke, Oliver !
  14. Thanks, Jim ! Thank you, Chuck - by the way, great story with the flying hubcaps (reminds me of the movie bullitt, where the bad guys' Dodge Charger also threw away hubcaps) - that's the reason my model has alloys... :-)
  15. Thank you, Mark! Thanks, Dennis !
  16. Thanks, Monty - back then it was easy to get one. Thanks, Craig ! Thanks, David - it was a quick build - I even didn't paint the interior (apart from instrument panel and steering wheel) Thank you, Bill ! Merci, Philippe! Thank you, Trevor - start it ! Restoring/saving old built-ups can be a lot of fun!
  17. and don't forget the 1/24 Hchette WRC collection (manufactured by Ixo): for example The MG Metro 6R4 and a few Lancias and Peugeots:
  18. I'm with you on a re-issue of the very first Lotus 49 - Bring it Back!!! As a huge Jim Clark fan, the 33 is a must for me!
  19. Very delicate model - looks super nice !
