  1. I found some decent buys in a pawn shop when I would visit a friend on Florida's west coast.
  2. I've been following your build to see what problems may arise during the build. It has helped me so far, I may even follow your lead and go with a different blower scoop. I really do not like the kit supplied mailbox scoop. I'm going to do some spoon tests with different shades of blue before I decide on a color. Just went through my paint and have 5 different shades of blue to choose from.
  3. Got a few more parts cleaned up and primed for my 40 Willys coupe build. Also started a WIP thread for it in the Drag forum under the title of "FLASHED AMT 40 Willys coupe"
  4. So far I've primed most of the parts and started painting and some light assembly. Luckily I had an unfinished swap meet glue bomb 40 Willy pickup that donated a few parts instead of going crazy trying to de flash some of the kit parts. I also used the donor parts to mock up the running gear. I am either going to use the Radir rims and tires from the Revell 64 Thunderbolt or the kits rims with M&H parts pack slicks. The Radir rims will require some parts box searching for wheel backs to use with the wire axles. The tires will not stay on the kits rims so a solution is in order. Having a spare dash I decided to cut out the gauge panel and fab one from sheet styrene. The kits dash has six small gauges and two large gauges of which I would assume one would be a tach. If it works out well I'll cut the new dash and use decals for a tach, oil pressure and water temp gauges.
  5. Started on this build last week and have been making progress slowly but surely. I am building the coupe version from the Retro Deluxe release from a few years ago. Needless to say it has been a time consuming build due to the amount of flash I've had to deal with. The front end has about a half hour or more in cleaning the flash and removing the huge parting lines from the fenders. I also have several hours in removing flash, parting lines and ejector marks from the rest of the parts. The easiest task in the build process was stripping the chrome! Color will be either Testors Star Spangled Blue or their Icy Blue over Testors Diamond Dust Silver. The interior will be Testors metal flake blue. The body and all other parts will be primed using white and gray Tamiya primers..
  6. Bill, the email address you gave me did work but it did have a few problems getting delivered. Mike contacted me and gave me this alternate email address to use mkhanson2017@outlook.com Thanks for your help
  7. Thanks Bill. Just sent an email to that address, will let you know if it works.
  8. I am in need of the email address for Best Model Car Parts. I know he sells on eBay but I don't have an eBay account or Paypal and would like to deal with them direct Thanks
  9. PM sent regarding wheel covers.
  10. They are for the driveshaft hoop that installs to the bottom of the interior tub.
  11. Stripped the chrome the other day for my 40 Willys coupe gasser project Lost count of how many hours I had in removing the flash and parting lines. Luckily I had an unfinished glue bomb 40 pickup I bought at a swap meet years ago. I used the ladder bars and front shock mounts from that kit. Got some primer on those parts, will inspect them tomorrow to see where I may have missed a parting line or two.
  12. I've also found it at Dollar General stores but only in a 64oz jug for $3.00
  13. Stripping paint and chrome. 32oz bottle is $1.00 so a gallon would be $4.00 compared to Castrol Super Clean at $9.00 a gallon. Haven't used it myself yet but others on the forum have used it with good results.
  14. I've been following Roadrunner's WIP on his Willys and saw your post about your solution. I still have about an hour or more of removing flash and parting lines before I can do a mockup.
  15. It took about half an hour to clean up the flash and parting lines on the fender assembly. I've had Johan kits that weren't flashed over as bad as this kit.
  16. Same here. Got some primer on the body and color on some parts for the 61 Ranchero I'm building as a curbside. Also started prepping parts for an AMT 40 Willys coupe build. Stripped the chrome and started removing parting lines and flash. Still have quite a bit more to do on the flash removal.
  17. Got a few things during the week. The pickup kits from a trade with a friend. Dollar Tree purchases of LA Awesome and spoons for paint testing. HL for some metal flake blue for the AMT 40 Willys coupe gasser I just started to build. Lowes for some fine drywall sanding mesh. I use the fine mesh to speed up removal of body side trim. I also wrap a piece around a deep socket to smooth and round out wheel wells after they've been enlarged. The mesh is available in coarse, medium and fine.
  18. Thanks Brian, that is probably close to the time frame I was thinking of. Could be mid 90's or shortly after the Ramcharger kits first came out. Unfortunately I didn't get Car Modeler and my 90's early 2000's model mags are packed away and not handy.
  19. Not sure if I saw it posted on a forum, in Model Cars Magazine or the "other magazine", but there was a guide to building a car trailer from the sprue from the Lindberg Dodge 330 kits. Does anyone know where to find it? I already did the Google site search for MCM and the other magazine as outlined in the How do I search for answers already posted here thread, nothing. I'm going through my parts boxes as I try to get a little more organized. Ran across a box that had some sprue from the 330 kit and wanted to see if I had all the needed pieces for the trailer build. If I don't have all the pieces it goes in the trash. If someone can point me to the article and I have all the pieces I'll offer them to someone here as I'll never build a trailer from them. Thanks
  20. That's a also a possible solution. I'm vending at the MDA Roanoke VA show next month, will be on the lookout for a cheap PL 64 GTO while I'm there.
  21. Thanks, that was quick! I have to check my storage unit as I believe I have a 65 Fairlane that was a semi glue bomb and now will be restorable with this interior. Will probably use an AMT 65 GTO as a donor for the Tempest. Only have a painted body, un painted chassis and front grill/bumper and rear bumper for the Tempest. Need a grill divider and hood for the Tempest, going to see if the Polar Lights 64 GTO will also be able to be used as a donor. Thanks again.
  22. Can anyone ID this AMT dash and interior? It was in an AMT 64 Tempest body with an interior that I know is not correct for the Tempest. It fits perfectly in the interior and the interior is a perfect fit for the body. Checked the original instructions on the Drastic Plastics site and the dash and interior I have are different in design. Thanks
  23. When I saw it at the show it seemed to say "take me home with you" I also like original builds and it now has a home with my three other past swap meet finds, a 63 Ford F100, 63 Nova htp and 63 Nova wagon with trailer.
  24. Along with a few kits this followed me home from the Salisbury swap this past Saturday. Original screw bottom 61 Ranchero with a decent brush painted finish. It must have been fairly well taken care of as it didn't even need to be cleaned and the mirrors and bed rails survived intact. Going straight to the display case as is.
  25. Here is a link to the front and back of the show flyer. Rear of the flyer shows all the classes and rules. Admission to the 1 to 1 car show and swap is only $12.00 and your admission to the model show and swap is included. All model show entries are free with your paid admission to the car show http://www.mdamodelcar.com/contest-flyer
